“Penny for your thoughts,” Raya says, and I flinch to think how distracted I’ve been. My book is open in my lap, but I’ve been staring into space for I don’t know how long. Judging by the little smirk on her face, it’s been a good long while.

“Oh…” I sigh out a laugh, closing the book and putting it aside. “It’s nothing serious.”

“Bullshit,” she chuckles. Pushing herself up among the pillows, she gives me her patented side eye. “You’re not getting past me with that one. You’ve been like a sphinx ever since I woke up. What gives?” 

Goddamnit. Why do I have to have such a perceptive sister? She’s been able to see through me since we were kids. Maybe it’s because we’re twins.

“Okay, so I was talking with Leander earlier. Not long after that whole thing at breakfast.”
