Chapter 100: Morning After

Emily

I wake up feeling like I’ve been hit by a Mac truck. It took forever to get to sleep last night. When Thomas actually shared information with me about what’s happening in Venice, my whole body started buzzing. Not just with anxiety, but with something more.

Whatever this thing is that’s let loose inside me, it has a mind of its own. I’ve definitely let my vengeance flag fly since Raya was first taken, but this is different. Like the blood in my veins is literally boiling.

All night I dreamed about Hiram. I’ve never laid eyes on him, and yet I know exactly what he looks like. It was the same way with Marek, actually, but this is sharper. More focused.

Maybe it’s having seen Marek that makes me so certain. In my dream—or whatever it was—where I witnessed Tatiana being burned at the stake, there were three figures orchestrating the whole thing. Marek was definitely one of the trio, but even in that reverie I could tell he wasn’t the guy in charge.
