What can I do to fix this??
I couldn’t blame her. This awkwardness between us was all on me. The stiff way she held herself, her fingers gripping the box of chocolate too forcefully, reminded me of what I had to do. I couldn’t postpone it any longer.
“I’m sorry for what I did the other day,” I said, my tone somber and low.
“Mr. Hayes, I…?”
She wasn’t about to make it easy for me. Not that I deserved leniency. She wasn’t the one who practically mauled an employee in his own kitchen.
“No, please, let me finish. What I did was unacceptable and I just wanted to say that I’m sorry and that it will never happen again.”
She simply looked at me for a long while, and just when I was about to repeat myself, she said, “Thank you for your apology.”
I felt the tension surrounding me instantly lighten… then I realized from the look on her face that she wasn’t done talking.
“I know I work for you, but I think for Chris’s sake we should keep our distance.”
