Chapter 24: Madison

I woke up with a slight headache, the morning sun prying my eyelids open as I stretched my aching muscles out. I squinted and covered my eyes with my palm against the sharp light.

I couldn’t believe I’d slept the weekend away. Luckily, it seemed that my fever had broken last night and I knew I had to get up and moving for the day. Mr. Hayes and Silvia were able to watch Chris all weekend, but it was Monday, which meant he was going back to work. I sat up, suddenly feeling very hot, pulled the duvet off my body, and winced. I was fully clothed in my black sweatpants and dusty pink sweatshirt.

My gaze fell to my nightstand beside me, and I instantly remembered how Noah had helped bring my fever down. After I initially passed out, Noah refused to let me out of my room all weekend and would constantly check up on me, bringing me all my meals. It was a side of him I had never seen before, and it warmed my heart just thinking about it.
