Chapter 29: Noah

On my drive home, I realized I didn’t have my phone with me and that I’d probably left it in my office, so I made a U-turn. It was past office hours, but security in the lobby let me in after showing them my ID.

As expected, with all the lights being off on the entire floor, I was met by darkness when I exited the elevator. But what I didn’t expect was the sounds of a struggle coming from my office. I reached for the inside pocket of my suit—

Shit! Of all times to not have my phone with me.

As I passed Candice’s desk, I quietly picked up her keyboard and held it over my shoulder with both my hands, ready to swing it at the head of whoever was busy robbing me. I halted when I was just about to reach the opening of my office. Not because I needed to gather my courage necessarily, but because I heard a woman moaning.
