Noah’s hand was gentle on my arm as he helped me out of the car. “It’s so quiet,” I whispered, the hush of the night wrapping around us.
“I wish it was this peaceful during the day,” he chuckled softly.
With a few taps on his phone, the building beeped, and the lights blinked as the alarm was turned off.
“Is that safe?” I asked, a tiny worry nibbling at my thoughts.
“It’s fine, we’ll only be a minute,” Noah assured me.
We walked to the elevator, the soft hum of its machinery the only sound to be heard as we made our way up to the floor his office was on. The moment the doors opened on his floor, a relieved breath escaped me.
“The bathroom’s right there.” Noah pointed, causing me to smile. “I’m just going to grab some things from my office after you’ve gone.”
“Go on, I’ll be fine,” I replied, watching as his feet remained planted. “You’ll be just down the hall, right?”
