Chapter 4

Adrian hadn't come back for several days, which gave me the opportunity to get my passport sorted out.

During this time, he didn't send me a single message, but Felicity's social media feed was constantly buzzing.

Adrian was like a guardian angel, never leaving her side. He cooked for her, knitted clothes for her, and fulfilled her every request without hesitation.

I'm not sure how many days passed, but Adrian suddenly returned home early one morning, the day before I was set to fly to Paris.

I had made breakfast myself and was sitting calmly in the dining room.

"Aria, why are you up so early?"

Adrian rushed in from outside, pausing for just a moment before hurrying over to take my hands in his.

There were small cuts from my lack of knife skills and burn marks from oil splatters.

"You can't see, how could you cook by yourself? Mrs. Winters will be here soon."

"With all these injuries, are you in pain?"

His acting was so convincing that if I didn't know the truth, I might have still been fooled.

"I'm fine, I just felt like cooking after such a long time."

Mrs. Winters had already been notified to come in the evening. By then, I'd probably be gone from Los Angeles.Taking advantage of the moment he went to find a bandage, I saw the text message Felicity had sent him.

[Adrian, I was so scared when I woke up and didn't see you. Come back quickly.]

Sure enough, as soon as Adrian returned and saw the message, he immediately prepared to leave.

[Aria, there's something at the company I need to rush over for. Wait for me at home, I'll come back early today to be with you.]

He gently stroked the top of my head.

[Adrian, goodbye.]

Hearing my unusual words, he felt a bit strange, but only looked back for a moment before smiling in response.

[Aria, wait for me to come home.]

The door locked, and I let out a sigh of relief.

Wait for him?

Never again from now on.

I packed my luggage simply, bundled up everything related to me in the house, and contacted a recycling station to take it away.

Finally, I placed the signed divorce agreement on the coffee table.

Sitting in the taxi heading to the airport, I received a message from Felicity.

[Aria, Adrian was originally worried about you and wanted to go back to be with you, but I called him back with just one message. You've been outmaneuvered, so have some shame and leave him quickly.]Here's an image of Adrian, who hasn't rested well, napping lightly on her lap.

I didn't respond.

As I boarded the plane with my suitcase, I paused and looked back one last time.

From now on, the sky would be high and the waters far between us.

Adrian and I would never meet again.
