Chapter 7

Mr. Shaw seemed to sense my confusion and smiled bitterly as he began to tell me his story.

"At first, I also thought that since they were robots, their main function should definitely be to serve the public and bring convenience to people's lives. As for those entertainment and flashy functions, I felt they were unnecessary."

"But this idea changed after my son committed suicide due to depression."

I stared at Mr. Shaw in shock. His son was three or four years older than mine and should have been experiencing the excitement of youth on a college campus. I never imagined he would end his life so early.

"It's my fault too. His mother died early, and I was too busy with work when he was young and neglected him. When we did meet, I would only ask about his studies. Once, I noticed his grades had dropped significantly, and I found a lot of toys in his room. In a fit of anger, I smashed all those toys. At the time, I saw them as the root cause of my son's declining grades."
