Chapter 55: Don't Move

"John Constantine? Why are you here?"

"Because there are things that may require your help—problems that I can't understand or solve."

Noah walked slowly toward them, looking at the two people with some surprise.

To be honest, he really didn't know why they had come to him. He was just a wizard, not an exorcist. Why would Constantine think he could help?

"But why do you think I can help you? And why should I?"

"Maybe you're much more knowledgeable than me in certain things. Not to mention, this isn't for free—it's paid. And a pretty big sum, at that. Are you interested?"

"Oh? Really? Then let's find a place to sit down."

Angela listened to their conversation silently. To be honest, she had no idea why this so-called exorcist had brought her here.

But she didn't ask too many questions. Earlier, when she had arranged to meet Constantine, she had been attacked by a demon. Since then, she had learned never to underestimate anyone or anything.

Even if the woman in front of her was just an elegant lady, and the boy looked no older than fourteen or fifteen, she didn't feel that anything was amiss.

Maybe this strange pair had some unimaginable abilities.

After finding a roadside stall, Constantine ordered some food and handed Noah what looked like a hospital identification band.

Noah took the band, glanced at the name on it casually, and immediately understood.

"This is seriously twisted. Looks like you went to hell, right? How exactly? Forget it—it doesn't matter. What do you need from me?"

"I need you to help me track down these rule-breaking bastards and send them back! Obviously, you've already felt the presence of this evil power—the demon foot soldier you took care of a few days ago."

"That thing was a foot soldier? You must be joking. How much?"

"This..."

To be honest, Constantine had assumed it wouldn't be easy to convince a wizard to help with this case.

But he had noticed that this young wizard seemed very interested in money, so he decided to take a chance.

Magicians were on a different level compared to exorcists—Constantine knew that well.

People who couldn't become magicians but could perceive the supernatural world often ended up trained as exorcists.

And from what Constantine had seen, magicians didn't hold exorcists in high regard.

In their eyes, exorcists were just second-rate practitioners of the mystical arts.

So Constantine had figured it was worth trying. If Noah refused, he'd have to handle it himself. But if the wizard agreed, then his job would become much easier.

Before Constantine could name a price, Angela suddenly interrupted.

"Sorry, I'm the employer this time. May I know who you are?"

"Sure, but you need to come to terms with certain objective facts—like how you used to be able to see things but chose to suppress it. That's why your ability disappeared. If you reclaim it, you'll have fewer problems."

Noah shrugged. He was simply stating the truth.

This policewoman belonged to a special group of people. Since Noah knew the Constantine storyline, he understood her situation perfectly. If she regained her ability, it would make things a lot easier for him.

Of course, if she refused, it didn't matter. He could always just cast an Obliviate charm on her and erase everything from her memory.

The U.S. Ministry of Magic hadn't found him yet, and Noah wasn't in a hurry to seek them out. If they weren't going to come to him, then fine—he wasn't going to waste his time on them.

"How do you know that?" Angela was stunned, then realized she had asked a stupid question.

If Constantine had brought her here, it meant these people were anything but ordinary.

That meant they could perceive things she had deliberately ignored. Angela shook her head and quickly pushed those unsettling thoughts aside.

"Ten thousand dollars—if you can uncover the truth behind my sister's suicide, ten thousand dollars."

"Too low. Ten thousand pounds."

"Who are you? At least let me know if you're worth that much."

"I'm a wizard, ma'am."

Noah smiled slightly and used Legilimens to project his words directly into Angela's mind.

Angela felt the whisper echo in her ear, yet she hadn't seen Noah move his lips. A cold shiver ran down her spine.

A wizard?

The kind that existed in legends?

Impossible.

…Or was it?

Demons, devils, and exorcists were real. In that case, maybe wizards weren't so far-fetched either.

Angela was about to ask something, but suddenly, she noticed Noah's expression change. He abruptly stood up and walked out.

Ms. Haifin immediately followed him, as did Constantine.

Angela sighed, threw some money on the table, and hurried after them. She really couldn't figure out what was up with these mysterious people.

"What's wrong, Noah?" Ms. Haifin asked urgently. Ever since learning about the supernatural world, she had become a little more anxious.

"Something's happened. I can feel a very evil force," Noah said softly, walking toward a dark alley.

"Evil force? What do you mean?" Constantine asked curiously. Another demon?

"We'll know when we get there."

In truth, the source of this dark energy was far away. The only reason Noah could sense it was because of someone he had encountered before—Father Hennessy.

When Noah had killed the demon earlier, its essence, combined with his magic, had left traces on everyone nearby.

And now, unexpectedly, one of those traces was reacting, carrying an even stronger presence of evil.

Noah had sensed these remnants before but ignored them since they would naturally fade.

But now, something had changed.

"Hold on—let's just teleport there," Noah said, drawing his wand.

"Teleport? Where?" Angela asked, confused.

"You'll see soon enough. Oh, and don't move—unless you want to leave part of your body behind. Apparate!"

With a loud crack, the four of them disappeared.

The moment they vanished, two figures emerged from the shadows.

"Boss, are we seriously just letting him run loose? Isn't he breaking the International Statute of Secrecy?"

"Of course he is. But the British Ministry of Magic is handling negotiations, so we're just here to keep an eye on him. Besides, in this case, he's actually doing us a favor. You have to admit—this kid is impressive. Feels like he could graduate already, doesn't it?"

"Yeah… Even though he's still a first-year, damn! But honestly, with him involved, I feel a lot more at ease."

"Alright, let's follow him. We need to make sure he doesn't cause too much trouble."
