Selene looked at the cold, dangerous wand pointed at her. For a moment, she panicked—but forced herself to remain calm.
To be honest, she had never truly believed that Noah and the others would just let her go. And now, this situation only confirmed her doubts.
Still, she wanted to see what this young magician was planning.
But the magic she expected didn't happen.
Instead, the magician lightly tossed his wand into the air. It spun 180 degrees before landing back perfectly in his hand, tip-first.
"You... You are..." Selene was confused. Can magic really be cast like this?
"He's your enemy. Although I'd love to get rid of him myself, I think it's more appropriate if you do it. Right?" Noah said, casually.
Victor, after all, might've shown Selene some favor—but he only ever treated her as a stand-in for his deceased daughter.
And he had brutally murdered Selene's human family. That was a grudge Noah would never steal from her.
"So you're giving me your wand?" Selene now understood, but the gesture left her both amused and speechless.
"Yeah? What else?" Noah blinked, confused by her expression.
Just then, Professor Snape covered his face with one hand, clearly frustrated.
"What is it, Professor?" Noah asked. He genuinely thought he'd done something clever.
The wand was a powerful weapon. Even if it might be sealed by the Ancient One one day, Noah had wielded it for three years and knew how reliable it was. Handing it to Selene seemed logical.
"You're really giving her your wand to stab the vampire with?"
"Wait, doesn't the wand have its own magic power? Just wave it and boom—explosion! I remember when I bought it—"
"That's because it recognizes you! Wands choose their owners. If she uses it, she'd be lucky not to break it while poking the vampire—and he'd still be standing!"
"Oh..." Noah scratched his head and quickly reclaimed his wand.
He'd read many magical books—but clearly missed this bit. He remembered Harry using various wands effectively, so he'd just assumed it would work the same for anyone.
But that was a minor mistake.
Leaving Selene behind, Noah and Professor Snape walked out of the manor.
Snape had no interest in reading now—especially after being discovered by Noah. All he wanted was for everything to be over.
"By the way, Professor Snape, what's the situation with Barty Crouch Jr.?" Noah asked, curious about what Dumbledore had been up to.
"Still under surveillance," Snape replied briefly but didn't mind sharing the information.
"Honestly, how did you even figure out he and Mrs. Crouch had swapped? And why hasn't it been made public?"
It puzzled Noah. Knowing someone was a Death Eater and letting them roam free?
And since the information came from Dumbledore, it made even less sense. Why wouldn't he bring Crouch Jr. to justice?
"Albus... has his soft spots. Mr. Crouch believed his son was dead after joining the very people he fought against his whole life. His wife, terminally ill, couldn't bear it. So Albus stayed silent—for the sake of an old friend's broken heart."
"I see... So Dumbledore really is a loyal friend."
"Perhaps. He's a good man. Trustworthy. As for friends... I only wanted revenge when I came to him. Over the years, he hoped I'd heal—but... I can't forget."
Snape trailed off, but a rare smile crossed his face.
Perhaps the child born of both his and Lily's genes had become his new light.
"Congratulations, Professor Snape. Have you picked a name for your daughter?" Noah asked, smiling.
"Lily Snape," Snape said softly.
Noah's smile faltered. "Don't you think... that's a name your wife should have had?"
"What would you name her, then?"
"I dunno. Kelly? Amelia? Doris if you want something noble. Or more classic—Lydia? Mellie?"
"It would be best if you shut up. No goddess of the sea or rainbow could compare to my daughter. Her name is Lily Snape."
"Fine, fine. Your call."
Noah shrugged. Everyone seemed to like naming their kids after the ones they lost. Harry Potter named his son Albus Severus Potter, after all.
"How about she becomes my student someday?" Noah suddenly asked.
"Your student? You're going back to teach at Hogwarts?" Snape raised an eyebrow.
"No, no. I mean, when she finishes at Hogwarts, she can come to Kamar-Taj and train under me."
Snape's eyes lit up at first—but quickly turned suspicious. "Why?"
"Well, it won't just be me. I'm sure others—like Harry and the rest—will also want to teach her. Let her experience what her father did in his youth... but I won't. Because you were good to me, remember?"
Snape rolled his eyes. "I don't believe you."
Still, the idea stuck with him. Perhaps those kids he taught might return as professors one day... and when his child joined school, he'd want them to be kind.
The two walked on, eventually exiting the mansion.
Outside, they found John Constantine and Eric Brooks (a.k.a. Blade) sitting at the door, looking annoyed. Inside, the manor swarmed with armed soldiers.
"John, what's happening?" Noah asked.
"Hell if I know," Constantine muttered, cigarette in mouth. "Right after I dealt with those bloodsuckers, these guys showed up. Haven't said a word. Just standing there."
"Hmm." Noah rubbed his chin but wasn't worried.
They were just human soldiers. No need for violence—unless they forced his hand. Then he'd deal with the Ministry of Magic personally.
"Who are you?"
Noah and Snape approached, unfazed. As they neared, the soldiers became visibly tense.
But soon, they parted—and an older man stepped forward with two escorts.
He looked strong for his age, though sorrow rested on his face.
"Same as always. Clean up the scene," the old man ordered. The soldiers entered the mansion in formation. Only then did he address the two magicians.
He took a deep breath and forced a smile.
"Hello, young magicians. You must be wondering who I am. My name is Alexander Corvinus—Marcus's father."
"You heard our conversation?" Noah frowned.
"No. But when foreign magicians show up at a vampire stronghold... the outcome is pretty obvious," Alexander said with a bitter smile.
It wasn't hard to guess—the vampires were gone.
And now, it was likely the Lycans' turn.
"You're Marcus's father? But you're human... How?" Snape was stunned.
"I'm not quite ordinary. After a strange incident years ago, I discovered I'd become... immortal. A side effect of that disaster."
Alexander gave a hollow smile. "Forget about my son. I didn't come here for him. I came to let you witness something."
He pulled out a scroll from a soldier behind him—his face full of regret. Then, with a lighter, he burned it.
"What are you doing?" Snape asked, bewildered.
"Lycans are my children too," Alexander said. "I know where they're hiding. I don't love them—but I don't want them wiped out either. I've warned them. Whether they survive the Ministry's purge is uncertain. But I did what I had to."
"You're trying to save them?"
"Maybe. Maybe not. I don't know if they'll make it. But at least I gave them a chance. That's all I can do."
