Carol Danvers—though it would be more accurate to call her Vers for now—was not in a good place.
She had been captured by the Skrulls while searching for missing spies on Torfa with her team.
The worst part? Her memories had been read.
After exhausting every possible method to escape the Skrulls' clutches, she unexpectedly found herself falling into a starfield suspected to be the planet designated C-53.
She spent an entire night trying to contact her superior, Yon-Rogg, after locating a man who appeared to be in charge of security and asking him about communication equipment.
To be honest, Vers felt that everything on this planet was terribly outdated—otherwise, she wouldn't have spent so much time just trying to get a signal.
While she finally managed to connect the call, two figures were hidden on the rooftop nearby, watching the entire scene unfold.
These two were Noah and Wong.
Frankly, they almost hadn't made it.
Noah hadn't expected such a strong reaction when he mentioned his name—Brian had been visibly stirred.
More importantly, the man had almost ordered Noah to return directly to Kamar-Taj, believing him to be too important to be wandering around.
Ultimately, Noah and Wong had no choice but to mention the Ancient One again, which caused Brian to hesitate and, in the end, trust her judgment.
Of course, this decision came only after Brian personally contacted the Ancient One to confirm.
"Take these," Brian said before they left, handing Noah and Wong two objects resembling rings. "If anything happens, inject magic power into them immediately. I'm not as strong as the Sorcerer Supreme, but I'm based in the United States—I can get to you quickly. Don't try to be heroes, understood?"
"Thank you, Mr. Brian," Noah and Wong said, taking the rings without hesitation. They weren't fools—they were genuinely grateful for Brian's assistance.
"I'll also notify the Magical Congress of the United States. If things get out of hand, I'll have them dispatch reinforcements immediately."
"We understand."
After leaving New York for Christmas, Noah and Wong rushed to the incident site as soon as possible. Kamar-Taj magicians were a united group, and Noah knew this well.
Except for the traitors like Kaecilius and the now-dark Mordo, everyone else remained loyal and close-knit.
As for the Magical Congress of the United States—formerly mistaken as the Ministry of Magic?
Well, to be precise, it was the Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA). Both MACUSA and the Ministry of Magic served similar purposes: managing local magical affairs. They just differed in name and structural distribution based on their regions.
Noah still remembered his first encounter with MACUSA. Two years ago, when he had first arrived in the U.S., he'd met two Aurors.
He vividly recalled the two cowboy-like agents—especially the generous old one. But more than that, he remembered how they had tricked him.
After grabbing a taxi, Noah rushed to the scene overnight, but they seemed to have arrived early.
All they saw was a woman fiddling with some kind of phone.
This puzzled Wong, though he didn't say much and followed Noah to a rooftop to observe.
"Is that woman an alien?" Wong asked, watching the woman try to connect various wires and devices.
"Looks like one. Don't you sense the terrifying power inside her?"
Noah spoke while changing out of his monk robes. He didn't want to stand out too much.
"I felt it. It's not magic though—something else. But why are you changing clothes?" Wong scratched his head, puzzled.
"Because it'd be weird to walk around in robes. And yeah, her power isn't magical."
"Could it be some other energy injected into her? Otherwise, with that much power, our teacher wouldn't have just ignored her. So maybe she didn't originally have this power?"
"I must say, you have great detective potential," Noah said, amused. "Just assume it's alien tech enhancement. Remember this, Wong: the poor gain power through mutation, the rich through technology. Got it?"
"What about us?"
"We rely on hard work."
That much was true. Without the Ancient One's meditative guidance, Noah might've said it depended on bloodline. But now, magicians were indeed one of the few who could grow through effort alone.
Wong pondered for a moment and nodded seriously. That made sense.
Back on the rooftop, the alien woman still hadn't figured out the communication device, and the weather was getting colder, which made Wong a little bored.
Still, he didn't complain. Resting a day or two was no big deal, especially with Noah keeping a close eye on her.
By seven or eight in the morning, the woman finally got through.
"Looks like she's contacted her people. If nothing goes wrong, she should be able to leave, right?" Wong stretched and whispered.
"Probably… but it seems she's drawn some attention," Noah replied, cracking his neck and watching with interest.
He had already spotted the young Phil Coulson and a not-yet-one-eyed Nick Fury.
That made Noah grin—especially since Fury wasn't yet the bald, grizzled 'boiled egg' he'd become later.
"Hey, Noah, look over there."
Just as Noah was enjoying the banter between Fury and Captain Marvel, Wong tugged his sleeve and pointed to a rooftop opposite them.
Noah turned his head and saw a man aiming some sort of gun-like device downward.
Without hesitation, the man fired.
A beam of purple energy surged down.
Captain Marvel reacted swiftly—she pulled Fury aside and immediately retaliated with an energy blast of her own.
"Whoa, what was that? That energy didn't look ordinary," Wong said in surprise.
"No idea, but looks like we've got work," Noah said, standing up and leaping from the roof.
Of course, he didn't leap blindly—he cast a Feather Fall-like spell upon himself to land safely.
Wong followed, jumping down without hesitation.
Captain Marvel had already taken off after the attacker, but Noah noticed Coulson and Fury preparing to get into a car. He smirked.
If he remembered correctly, the real Coulson was still in the supermarket collecting evidence. That meant the man with Fury was a Skrull.
Noah quietly drew his wand, transfigured it into a ring, and slid it on his finger.
He activated a spell, and golden runes lit up, distorting the space around them—it was the Mirror Dimension.
"Wong, let's go," Noah said, stepping into the shimmering portal. Wong followed without question.
Inside the Mirror Dimension, Fury was just about to start the car when two unfamiliar teens appeared.
Before he could process what was happening, one of them raised his hand, and the car burst into flames.
"What the hell?!" Fury shouted, diving out of the vehicle. Coulson quickly followed.
But the ground beneath them suddenly flipped, sky became ground, and they were flung into the air—only to land painfully on a nearby building as gravity twisted again.
Fury stood, groaning. Everything hurt.
As he looked around, his eyes widened in horror.
To him, the building's wall was now the ground. He and Coulson were standing sideways, while the rest of the world moved normally on the street below.
"What the hell is going on!?"
"This is the Mirror Dimension. Think of it as a mirror of your reality," came a voice.
Fury looked up to see two young men standing in the air—supported by floating discs.
"Who are you?" he demanded, completely overwhelmed.
"Magicians. From Kamar-Taj," Noah said with a shrug.
"Magicians? First a space soldier shows up hunting shape-shifting aliens, now two magicians? What is today!?"
"Magic is real, dumbass. We weren't here for you. But since you were riding with a Skrull, we brought you in," Noah replied bluntly.
Fury blinked. "Skrull?"
There was only one person near him—Coulson.
Wait… didn't that woman earlier say Skrulls could shapeshift?
"Skrulls—what's your objective on Earth?" Noah asked calmly, staring at Coulson.
Coulson's face began to contort.
Before Fury's stunned eyes, his companion's features shifted—green skin emerged as the disguise faded.
Fury's jaw dropped so low, he could've caught falling debris in it.
"I didn't expect to meet a magician of Kamar-Taj. Looks like my luck really ran out," the Skrull said with a grimace.
