Noah became inexplicably famous for his physical training. All the Kamar-Taj magicians were surprised to find that his physical fitness seemed to be a little... terrifying!
You should know that Noah was the youngest in Kamar-Taj and the weakest in close combat.
Even though Noah's magic skills were impressive, no one seemed to know who had led Kamar-Taj's magical traditions astray. It appeared that most people still preferred to use their fists.
In their words, magic is extremely dangerous and draining, so it's more convenient to use fists when possible.
In this regard, Noah couldn't help but wonder: was Kamar-Taj's ancestor Gandalf, the Grey or the White?
Of course, Noah's physical fitness had improved, and his training was still ongoing. However, physical fitness is just that—he sadly found that he was likely the one who got beaten the worst in close combat exercises!
Fortunately, though, Noah recovered quickly. He now realized that he had to strengthen his close combat skills.
But what impressed Noah the most was why the promised magic machine gun had ended up on the path of 'dual-wielding berserker'?
---
"It seems I have to teach you some skills to improve, Noah." After training one day, the Ancient One looked at Noah, stroking her chin.
"Let's talk about it later. For melee combat, I think I might as well run to the other side of Mount Everest. The melee skills there are great," Noah said casually, sitting next to the Ancient One and patting the shoe prints left by Wong on his clothes from the previous training.
The other side of Mount Everest was his former home, and Noah didn't think there was anything that could compare to his homeland's level of close combat skills. The only trouble was that he didn't know who to find, but Noah was confident he'd find someone.
"I learned my close combat skills and methods there. Isn't it a great country?" The Ancient One smiled and shook her head.
"Uh, is that so? Okay, but it is indeed a great country," Noah stretched his body after wiping the footprints off his chest.
"Honestly, why don't you like close combat? Magic is convenient, but sometimes it's not good to waste it casually."
"I can only say it's a personal habit. Maybe I've been at Hogwarts for too long, so I prefer to solve problems with magic." Noah replied, rubbing his chin. After spending so many years at Hogwarts, he had grown accustomed to using magic for everything.
Sometimes Noah wondered if magic was specially made for lazy people—at least, he thought it was. Whether it was cleaning, washing clothes, or cooking, he used magic to do it all.
In fact, even in the regular world, technology functions similarly. People use technology to make their lives easier, much like Noah using magic to make his life more comfortable. Even in terms of fighting, while ordinary people don't have magic, they rely on guns and other technology. Though many choose close combat, there are very few who use their fists when they have firearms.
"By the way, teacher, how's the establishment of the university going?" Noah suddenly asked.
"University? It's almost established. But honestly, there's no need to build one. We've placed the classrooms in a mirror dimension, using the templates from Hogwarts and Ilvermorny," said the Ancient One, after a moment of thought.
Noah's mouth twitched involuntarily. The classrooms were in a mirror dimension, and the templates were based on the two major magical schools from the United States and the UK? This was excessive, even for Noah!
Noah even thought that, in the future, he might not need to buy a house—he could just live in the mirror dimension!
You see, maintaining a mirror dimension requires a lot of magic. Though Noah didn't know whether the Ancient One relied on her own magic to maintain it or used some special method, the idea itself was enough to astonish him.
"The only trouble now is sorting out the textbooks and teachers. To be honest, I didn't expect setting up a school to be so troublesome," the Ancient One sighed, feeling helpless.
"It doesn't seem that troublesome," Noah said, touching his chin.
Actually, Noah didn't think textbooks would be that difficult to manage. Wasn't it the same when he arrived at Kamar-Taj?
The way Kamar-Taj operated was different from Hogwarts. Here, the emphasis was on self-study. Everyone practiced the same things every day, listening to the Ancient One or other magicians explaining their understanding of magic. Teachers (like the Ancient One) would also offer some special attention when possible, but mostly, it was up to you to head to the library and read the books.
Noah had adapted to this lifestyle quickly since it felt very much like college life—minus dormitory managers and counselors, of course. Still, it was better than when he was publicly scolded by the entire school for eating hotpot in his Hogwarts dormitory!
Here? No one cared if you ate hotpot. At most, a large group of hungry people with good noses would gather and join you.
Moreover, Kamar-Taj never restricted high-tech products; they even welcomed them. For example, Mordo had his own mobile phone.
"Do you have any ideas, Noah?" The Ancient One asked, naturally picking up on Noah's words, her curiosity piqued.
"Well, I think there's no need to complicate things. I believe it would be great if they could live like we do. Of course, if you think this is inappropriate, let the magicians here manage the students. It could be like recruiting apprentices—one magician manages ten or even just three students," Noah suggested thoughtfully.
"Very interesting, continue," the Ancient One encouraged.
"The magician who leads them would teach them the rules here and guide them in their studies. This way, the new students will quickly adapt to the environment. If they have problems, they can go to the magician leading them, and if that magician doesn't know the answer, they can ask you, right?"
"It seems that it's indeed a possibility," the Ancient One nodded thoughtfully. Having someone lead and manage the students would help them integrate into the environment more quickly.
As for textbooks? It seemed there was no need for them. Just practice alongside other magicians.
Of course, if any specific expertise was needed, students could always ask any magician at Kamar-Taj.
Moreover, the Ancient One was confident the students coming here would be enthusiastic about learning. They'd also be learning meditation, so, indeed, there didn't seem to be a need for all these elaborate arrangements.
The Ancient One suddenly had a headache. Why hadn't she asked Noah's opinion sooner? She had been fooled by the methods used in other magical schools.
She remembered Noah saying that Kamar-Taj was like a university, and a university shouldn't be like ordinary magical schools. Was she supposed to manage them like the students at Hogwarts?
"Do you have any other ideas?" The Ancient One rubbed her temples. While Noah had a lot of unconventional ideas, sometimes they were remarkably practical.
"Of course!" Noah said, his thoughts running wild. "For example, we can divide the subjects."
"Divide into subjects?" the Ancient One asked, intrigued.
"Yes, something like liberal arts: magic and close combat. Teacher, you've already improved the training methods, so I think it should be separated. That way, the students can choose the type they want to focus on most," Noah explained.
"You just want to slack off, don't you?" The Ancient One smiled knowingly, catching Noah in the act.
Noah scratched his nose, unwilling to admit it, but he did have some ideas for making things easier for himself. After all, this might help him avoid getting beaten up so much during training!
Sighing, Noah continued, "Okay, subjects must be divided, but they should all be compulsory. How about that?"
"Very good. What's next?" The Ancient One nodded in satisfaction and waved her hand, causing a pen to appear before her, ready to record Noah's ideas.
"Next, we move on to assessments. We've set up Kamar-Taj as a university, so we should follow the usual university system. University graduates in four years, so we'll do the same. Every year, we'll have a final assessment at the end of each semester. Those who pass will be promoted, and those who fail will be retained or even expelled," Noah explained.
"Final assessment? Won't that be problematic? And what would we assess them on?" the Ancient One asked, puzzled.
"It's simple—psychological assessments. Magicians need a strong will, but they also need to be smart enough to make good choices. This assessment is necessary to avoid having dangerous individuals who could harm both the magical and ordinary worlds."
The Ancient One nodded. This was indeed important.
She'd agreed to the idea of opening a university to ensure a future with more capable magicians. But if one of her students went astray, causing harm to the world, that would be disastrous.
Not everyone is like Casillas—he was always meant to train the future Sorcerer Supreme.
