Chapter 5

Garett finally saw me after two minutes. The smile on his face suddenly froze as he hastily pushed Josie away.

"Luna, you... why are you out here? How are you feeling? Are you still in pain?"

I stared at him intently, trying to find traces of the past in his face, but there was nothing.

Now, he was mature and composed, no longer possessing the sincerity and genuine love he once had for me.

I shook my head, "It doesn't hurt anymore. It's just a superficial wound, nothing serious. The doctor said I can go home to rest and recover."

Garett seemed to breathe a sigh of relief and casually introduced the woman beside him, "This is Josie, my business partner. We happened to run into each other at the hospital for her prenatal check-up, so I came to see how she was doing."

My gaze fell on Josie's pregnant belly, "Miss Winters is expecting. Why isn't your husband here with you?"

Josie caressed her baby bump, her face beaming with happiness, "The baby's father couldn't make it today due to some business, but he loves me very much. He not only gifted me a mansion but also personally designed blue fireworks that will be set off across the entire city to celebrate my pregnancy."

I forced a smile, "Is that so? You must be very happy then."

Josie became increasingly smug, "When the time comes, Mrs."Would you like to join us for dinner and fireworks, Gevano?" she asked.

Garett's voice turned cold as ice: "That won't be necessary. My wife needs to rest lately."

With that, he scooped me up by the waist and turned to leave.

Behind us, Josie's smile froze, her eyes venomous as they bored into me.
