Battle in the Cold Blizzard

Donovan looked at the holographic map again. He carefully examined his and the enemy's positions on the map. Then, he floated down on the thick snow, and landed beside a large boulder covered in snow.

He took a deep breath, readying himself. This was the second time he was facing a moderate difficulty mission. His first time was Karlon, not including the ones before his transmigration.

I just hope this doesn't end like Karlon...

All the mission's I've done over the past few days have all been on the easy difficulty. The mission I did with Sylvia and her team was on the high difficulty, but it didn't really tire me out, because I had people with me...

Donovan recalled Karlon, his first mission after his transmigration. He shook his head, and tried hard to recall his experiences on his past missions before he transmigrated.

Relax. You've accomplished many missions on the moderate and high difficulty. You're Donovan Volgard... You've got this...

Following that, Donovan looked at the map again. The four red dots were moving, and they were clustered together. Then, Donovan suddenly turned invisible and began floating again. The holographic map also had a compass function, and the four Annihiliths were located northeast, and Donovan started heading in that direction.

...

Four Annihiliths were traveling together in the snow and harsh blizzard, their heads resembling a black hole sucking in the snow that surrounded it. Then, one of them, a Reaper-type, "said" something to the two Drone-types in front in its own language. The Annihilith's voice was almost ethereal, and sounded like a distant black hole.

As the four aliens walked, they spotted a white creature hopping on the snow. It had four red eyes, and two long ears. It was about the size of one of the Drone-type's black hole-like heads. One of the Reaper-types used its arm covered in pitch-black crystals to push the Drone-type in front of it towards the small creature.

The pushed Annihilith "growled," and approached the small white creature. It raised its right arm that had turned into a blade. The three Annihiliths watched attentively.

Suddenly, before the Annihilith could swing its blade arm at the white creature, a spear made of light suddenly struck the Annihilith from above on its back. It was too fast, too instant, that the other three Annihiliths only reacted when the struck Annihilith fell on the snow. The small white creature immediately ran away.

The black-hole like head of the fallen Annihilith slowly disappeared right after. Then, the other three aliens came together, readying themselves for another attack. One of the Reaper-types plunged its blade arm on the snow, and a green barrier surrounded the three of them. They all looked up, searching for the attacker, but they failed to spot anyone because of the thick blizzard.

Meanwhile, Donovan was floating high above, watching everything unfold. He was the one who struck the Annihilith with the light spear.

The only offensive attacks I can use here are Light Spear, Lightning, and Light Beam... Flame Ball is ineffective here because of the snow. I hope this mission rewards me with a new offensive spell...

The real threat here are those two Reaper-type Annihiliths. Based on the original Donovan's memories, Reaper-types have been shown to have excellent agility, and is a Mage-type Visitor's worst enemy... These Annihiliths prefer to fight in close-range, while a Mage-type prefers to fight over long-range. I should be careful not to get spotted.

Donovan was currently invisible. And because the Annihiliths were easy to spot because of their black-hole heads, Donovan was successful in taking down one of them.

One of the Reaper-types looked at the panicking Drone-type Annihilith. It continued staring creepily at it, and this was noticed by the Drone-type. They stared in silence for about six seconds, when suddenly, the Reaper pushed the Drone outside of the barrier.

The Drone-type "screamed," and banged its blade arms on the barrier. The two Reapers watched in silence. Meanwhile, Donovan was thinking, What the... It pushed the Drone outside? But why?

Donovan aimed his umbrella at the "screaming" Annihilith, and fired a powerful Light Beam. The beam made of light instantly pierced the Drone's head, and fell to the snow right after.

Suddenly, the two Reapers looked above them. They looked at each other, and "said" something in its own alien language. The head of the Reaper that didn't form the barrier suddenly turned red while it kept gazing from above. It saw a floating silhouette being covered by the thick blizzard.

Right on the heels of that, that same Reaper kneeled, and instantly leapt at great speed and force! It lunged towards the floating attacker being covered by the blizzard!

Donovan's eyes widened, and he used his spell, Barrier. The Reaper clashed with him, and Donovan's figure turned visible because of the clash. Donovan locked eyes with the Reaper, though it had no visible eyes, and it "muttered" something as it slowly fell down.

He finally realized something. I see... So the reason it pushed the Drone outside of the barrier was because it wanted to confirm the enemy's, or rather, my position. And when I killed it with Light Beam, I basically exposed myself. Sigh...

Donovan remembered the corresponding information about Reaper-type Annihiliths: They have the ability to see through the invisibility of a Visitor!

How troublesome...

He sighed, and gripped his umbrella tightly. He deactivated his Barrier ability, and prepared to use Lightning to strike down the two Reapers. Suddenly, he heard a loud boom from below. It was the sound of a Reaper lunging at him again!

Donovan activated his Barrier ability, and the Reaper clashed its blade arms on the surface of the barrier. The barrier began showing signs of cracking right after the Annihilith began to fall down. If he wanted to use offensive attacks, he'd have to first deactivate his defensive ability. This was one of the weaknesses of Mage-type Visitors.

This is bad. If the barrier completely gets destroyed, it's gonna take a while for me to be able to use it again... I have to finish this quickly.

Donovan began floating, or rather, flying at a fast speed. As he kept floating, he began charging up his Lightning spell.

Meanwhile, from below, the two Reapers had already began running at an incredible speed towards the direction of the flying Visitor. Yes, the two Reapers have confirmed that the attacker was a Visitor!

The two Reapers planned on breaking the Visitor's barrier first before beginning their coordinated attack. The cold, harsh blizzard didn't impede the two Annihilith's rush. Meanwhile, Donovan was halfway on charging up his Lightning spell, but he was starting to feel his body turning cold. The barrier technology of his silver watch that was helping him fight against the cold was starting to become ineffective.

Donovan cursed inwardly about the cold as he kept charging up the Lightning spell. Suddenly, he heard a loud boom coming from below again! He looked back, and saw an Annihilith lunging towards him at an incredible speed!

But at that same moment, the Lightning spell had already finished charging! Donovan aimed his umbrella at the Reaper-type, and lightning immediately surrounded the tip of his umbrella.

Then, a powerful, strike of lightning instantly shot out from the tip of the umbrella, and struck the lunging Annihilith, sending it down below as it crashed with a loud boom on the snow. The last, remaining Annihilith caught up, and looked at its fellow Annihilith. Its black hole-like head was already gone, and small bursts of lightning surrounded its crystal body.

The Annihilith stared at its fellow comrade for a while, before raising its head to look at the floating Visitor.

Meanwhile, Donovan was already shivering from the cold as he stared down the Annihilith that was also "glaring" at him. Donovan sighed. I-It's too cold...

But meanwhile, the last Annihilith from below was seething in rage. Suddenly, its left arm turned back into a normal arm with fingers, and broke its right blade arm. Holding the sharp, crystal-like blade, it plunged it deep into its chest, letting out a "screech" that sounded like a distant black hole as it did so.

Donovan's right eyebrow raised. Then, his eyes widened as the corresponding information about Reaper-type Annihiliths surfaced in his mind once again:

If it has no other options, a Reaper will suddenly break their right blade arm, and stab their chest with it. Right after that, it'll turn bigger, stronger, fight more fiercely, and lose all intelligence. It will become a pure killing machine, killing everything in its line of sight, even its comrades. It is advised to run away until it completely exhausts itself.

Suddenly, the Reaper's crystal-like body turned bigger, and its crystals that was spread out from its body moved to its back, turning into sharp pitch-black spikes. Its head resembling a miniature black hole turned more unstable. The sharp blades on both of its arms turned bigger, and was burning with a fiery green, despite the cold and strong blizzard. Its muscles were more refined, and its chest had a purple star symbol.

Raising its head, it looked at the shivering Visitor from above.
