Hypothermia

Suddenly, a holographic screen appeared in front of him. It contained the words: Warning! Berserk Reaper Detected. Boosting Float Ability. Please Run.

Donovan cursed inwardly, F*ck! I don't get paid enough for this sh*t! It's... too cold...! I should've worn some heat tech clothes!

Suddenly, the berserk Annihilith from below started walking forward slowly as it stared at the floating and shivering Donovan, its arms swaying. It began walking faster, and faster... and faster... faster... until it was running! And its speed was too fast!

Donovan was struck by a sudden goosebump and despair as the Annihilith lunged at him. He immediately used his Barrier ability, but as soon as the rageful Annihilith clashed with the barrier and swung its blade arms on the surface of it, the barrier was immediately broken, just like that!

The Annihilith swung its blade arm at the exposed Donovan, when suddenly, Donovan blocked its strike with the umbrella. Donovan's Float ability had been deactivated because of the freezing cold and the Annihilith's weight.

The two of them began falling down with Donovan at the bottom and the Annihilith at the top. Donovan's mind went racing. Once they hit the ground, or rather, the snow, it's instant death for him!

As they were falling, Donovan used his Light Chain ability. Chains of light immediately appeared in thin air, and the Annihilith's body was suddenly wrapped with chains. The Annihilith was hanging in mid-air, bound by the chains as Donovan kept falling.

He began to float, saving himself from instant death. Then, he heard a loud screech coming from above. The berserk Annihilith, with its bulging muscles, had already broken free from the light chains, and was already heading down towards Donovan!

He felt his heart drop to his stomach. He had the feeling that he was going to die here early. No! You're Donovan Volgard, damn it! And I don't want to die so early in my transmigration life!

Donovan floated away. And since Reaper-type Annihiliths are unable to fly, the berserk Annihilith fell down in a straight line.

He heard it fall on the snow while he was flying away. And since his Float ability had been boosted because of an emergency, he was flying at an incredible speed. But as he looked back, the berserk Annihilith was running on all fours towards him! And worse, it was faster on all fours!

The berserk Annihilith started to catch up, its screeches echoing throughout the land. Meanwhile, Donovan was starting to charge up his Lightning ability once again. One second, two seconds, three seconds, four, five...

It was taking too, too long. And Donovan felt he'd shut down any second because of the harsh, freezing cold. Hypothermia was knocking on his door. He wanted to return home, to lie down in bed while it was summer. He wanted to eat something hot. He wanted to have a warm shower. He wanted... to be in the warm embrace of a woman, particularly Sylvia. But alas, he was in a planet of ice and snow, running away from a berserk Reaper-type Annihilith.

He looked back, but the Annihilith wasn't there. His eyes widened as he looked down below him. It was directly below him! The Annihilith once again lunged towards him, and Donovan prepared to use his umbrella to block or parry the Annihilith's strikes. He didn't have enough time to dodge.

They both clashed. The Annihilith swung its right blade arm at Donovan, but the Visitor was able to block it. But as for the Annihilith's left blade arm... it was already plunged deep into Donovan's stomach.

Donovan screamed. He felt his body turning cold. And once again, his Float ability had been deactivated. They both started falling down. But as they were falling down, the Annihilith raised both its arms, and prepared to stab it repeatedly at the Visitor.

Donovan watched this with a heavy and tired expression. His body was growing cold, and he felt he'd die any second. This filled him with despair. He felt that his second life was going to end here early... when he suddenly remembered his other spell: Blinding Light.

He closed his eyes, and with a snap of his fingers, a bright flash of light erupted in between both him and the Annihilith. It blinded the Annihilith, and used both its arms to cover its face. Donovan took this opportunity to point the tip of the umbrella at the berserk Annihilith's head. Then, he fired a powerful beam of light.

It pierced through the Annihilith's pitch-black arms and its black hole-like head, but it was still moving. It lowered its arms and looked at the Visitor, but another beam of light pierced through its head. Then another, and another... and another, until the head resembling a miniature black hole slowly disappeared.

Donovan pushed away the Visitor, struggling as he did so. He kept falling. His stomach was heavily injured, and he didn't have the energy to scream anymore because of the very harsh and freezing cold.

So this is it... He thought as he slowly fell. He lost his grip on the umbrella. But then he remembered something:

As long as a Visitor annihilates every Annihilith and returns to Umbrellas while still fully conscious, the mission is still considered accomplished. But if the Emergency Teleport is used, the mission is a failure.

Donovan softly chuckled, and began using his umbrella's World-Hopping ability to return to Umbrellas. He was still falling. At this moment, he had already lost hope. The Emergency Teleport ability of his umbrella was instant, but as for the World-Hopping ability, it took longer than fifteen seconds. As for why the Emergency Teleport was considered a failure, was because it was really only for emergencies, and plus it teleports someone in the Healer Sanctuary instead of the Portal Chamber. A Visitor's use of their Emergency Teleport would be recorded in the Healer Sanctuary, and if they exceeded the five usage mark of Emergency Teleport, every mission where they use ET is considered a failure. This was because healing technology was still new to Umbrellas, and it was very expensive.

Donovan sighed, wondering why the rules of Umbrellas was so complicated. He was too tired to think. His mind was starting to shut down. He was falling to his death, and his World-Hopping ability was still charging. Ten seconds, eleven seconds, twelve...

Then, his body was enveloped with light as he disappeared in thin air. Just a second more, and he would've died. The deceased berserk Annihilith fell right after Donovan disappeared.

...

Umbrellas, at the Portal Chamber.

A bright flash of light. Following that, a man dressed in a suit and a black overcoat took one step and fell on one knee. Donovan let go of his umbrella, dropping it by his side. His suit had been stained with blood because of the wound inflicted by the berserk Annihilith on his stomach.

Donovan felt the warm sunshine of the floating city out in space called Umbrellas. A single tear escaped his right eye, dropping to the floor. For the first time in his life, he was very happy to see the warm sunshine. Tiero rushed towards him, and asked with a serious expression, "What happened?"

"...Mission accomplished," answered Donovan in a tired voice.

Following that, Tiero raised his right hand with a metal glove, and touched Donovan on the shoulder. Donovan's stomach wound began to slowly heal, until it was no more. Then, Tiero said, "You're freezing cold. Get some rest. I'll let you take the day off tomorrow."

What a kind boss... I don't know why Dean hates this person so much... Donovan nodded, and stood up, struggling as he did so. Tiero helped him stand up, and picked up Donovan's umbrella. Donovan took the umbrella from him, and began walking away.

Hot noodles... warm shower...

Donovan kept thinking about these two things as he walked home. It was currently 9:02 a.m. as Donovan entered his apartment. Alfred leaped up from the couch, looking at Donovan. "What happened?" asked the Vorlan, Alfred in a deep voice.

"...Berserk Reapers," answered Donovan in a tired voice. He then removed his scarf, gloves, overcoat, and everything else until he was only wearing his pants.

Alfred returned to the sofa, focusing on the show it was watching on the TV. Meanwhile, five minutes later, Donovan was sitting on the bathtub filled with warm water. He didn't move there for a while.

Ah...

Right now, the only thing on his mind was warming himself up. He didn't think about the mission reward at all.
