Katrina's POV
The torment and beating went on with Amanda's mocking laughs and words and Shaun's ruthless kicks and whips. At some point everything went blank as I lost consciousness.
I wasn't sure if I was dreaming or dead but I suddenly saw a beacon of light approach me. Frowning and squinting my eyes, I sat up and watched it come closer.
Luckily for me it didn't get too close thus I would have been blinded by it. It stopped and I observed it with interest, questions flying about in my head.
'Be strong Katrina,' a feminine voice echoed from the light, causing my frown to become deeper as I wondered what the hell was happening.
'Who are you?' I questioned in a quiet tone, trying to peek behind the light as I wondered if the guard stationed at the door was sleeping or had left thus it seemed like I was the only one there with whatever the light was.
'Someone you'd come to thank,' the voice said. 'You have questions which would be answered in due time.'
'No, I want them answered now, please,' I murmured desperately, hoping that whatever it was would grant me what I wanted.
'In due time Katrina,' the voice trailed off. 'Just have it in mind and remember that you are destined for greatness. Don't let your current situation break you down.'
'I'm already broken down,' I revealed with all honesty, having no strength to act strong. 'I just want some peace and freedom.'
'You'll have both,' the voice continued to speak its weird messages. 'Be patient.'
I opened my mouth to say something but like a flash, the light disappeared and darkness was back again. My brows furrowed as I tried to grasp anything all to no avail.
"Katrina," I faintly heard someone call out to me in the darkness. "Get up!"
"What? Who is that?" I asked, my tone sounding cracked as I felt a dryness in my throat.
"Get up!" A slap descended on my shoulder, my body jerking in shock at the impact. I happened to move too fast as I hissed the next moment at the pain that surged through my left arm. "Alpha Shaun said to let you go."
"Alpha?" I implored and unraveled my life which I had no idea were closed in the first place. I angled my head in the direction of the voice and came face to face with Dean the guard.
I scrambled back in shock and peered at my surroundings, the events of the previous day coming back to me like a flood.
'Wait, previous day?'
Whirling around I spotted the sun shine through the tiny window and indeed it was another day. I tried to stand but fell on my ass as a sting jeered me from my knee, my side hurting as every aspect of my body reminded me about the torment my so called mate and Alpha had inflicted on me.
Placing a palm on the wall I placed another on my hip and gradually lifted my body to a standing position, wincing and biting my bottom lip tightly to prevent screaming at the pains my body felt as I did that.
Dean the guard offered me a mocking glimpse as he unlocked the barrier and pushed it ajar, his head cocked to the side as he snorted at my lanky posture.
"Want me to drag you out or something?" He questioned in a scoff as he watched me struggle.
"No thank you," I muttered and shifted my gaze away from him to the floor as I inhaled deep breaths in a bid to gather courage to move and strengthen myself against the flinch I knew would come as soon as I put one foot ahead and "aaaaah!"
"Don't burst my eardrums," he muttered under his breath while tears stung my eyes at cramp I felt in my joints from the simple actions.
"Sorry," I apologized. Not to Dean but the other inhabitants in the dungeon whom I had no idea who they were as they groaned and grunted in protest to the noise.
"I need you to be out of here fast," Dean sneered but I paid him no heed as I had a battle with my muscles.
Removing my palm from the wall, I tried to stand straight without support, my eyes shutting as my breath came out in short pants. Thankful to the heavens I didn't collapse back on the ground.
With the progress I had, I decided to continue. Hissing and grunting with each step I took as my joints and sides screamed in protest from the bruises I had received after the beating that made me unconscious.
One hand still on my waist, I moved the other palm in the air as if to guide me as I weaved a part to the exit where the barrier was and walked out into the dark hallway of the dungeon.
My cheeks were wet from the waterworks my eyes released at the agony I was going through as I moved. Finally I reached the mouth of the dungeon pathway and growled as I climbed the small flight of stairs.
I arrived back at the pack house, natural light and the bright bulbs shining down on me that I had to squint my eyelids for a moment to get adjusted to the brightness.
A few of the maids walking about caught sight of me as I leaned my body on the wall to catch my breath for a moment. As expected they simply gave me a disgusted glance and continued on their way, none of them bothering to show concern of find out the problem seeing as I was covered in bruises, blood and dirt.
Shaking my head at my faith, I stilled my resolve and once again, reminded myself I had only me to depend on as I pushed myself off the wall and gradually dragged my feet to the staircase and moved under it where there was a tiny door.
Pressing my weight on it, I slowly twisted the doorknob and opened the wooden structure and entered into the tiny space which was my room.
The single bed in the center, whitewashed walls, a broken mirror which man a Ged to show me a bit of my reflection not that I needed it and a small table.
Everything in the room screamed how pitiful I was and there was no way I could deny it.
