Chapter 8

Katrina's POV

Days went by and my bruises just got a little bit better. No one cared about the state of my health as I was back doing errands and hard labor the next day.

Being without a wolf made me totally different from others of my kind. At times it was bliss because there was no annoying voice in my head to tell me and issue me orders.

Nonetheless at times when I felt too alone, I wished I heard the presence in my head to fill me in with some company. Also at times like these when I needed to heal fast, I wished she was with me because I was healing slowly like a human.

Bending over, I finished wrapping the bandage around my knee for the second time in a few days. Having no one to help me out or care I learnt to do stuff for myself.

Even Shaun who had the audacity to show up after what he did to sleep with me didn't even flinch at the bruises and bandaged knee and a swollen elbow on my body.

I managed to kick him out of course and since then he hadn't visited. It had been a week now and I hoped it stayed that way hence I didn't know if I would be able to hold up the misery for long.

Done with my treatment, I laid my back on the mattress for some moments and shut my eyes, allowing the pain to pass as the window shone on my skin.

The small clock on my desk indicated it was a few minutes to 7 in the early hours of the morning. I should have been put to work by 6:30 am and if I don't get moving soon, I'll be called out.

Just as the thought came to my head a knock resounded on the door and I exhaled a sigh, remaining in my position and not bothering to answer.

"Katrina!" A voice yelled as the knocks increased, it seemed as if she planned to break the door with her fists if that was possible. "Amanda wants you down in the kitchen."

I still didn't utter a word to indicate I was in here or heard whatever she had said. The knocking halted and before I could feel relief, the doorknob rattled in protest. "Katrina!"

Sitting up on the bed, I stopped a moan of pain from leaving my lips as I strained my bones. I gawked at the knob for some time till it stopped shaking, the knocks continuing after. "Did you hear me?"

Silently, I stretched my arm to the chair beside my bed and dragged over the cloth I had hung there. It consisted of a worn-out grey sweatpants that was a size too large for my slender frame.

I dropped it on my lap and put on the brown long sleeved tank top which had torn marks which I had stitched to prevent it from becoming an opening.

At some point between retrieving my clothes and trying to slid my bruised arms into the long sleeves, the knocking stopped and I heard footsteps retreating.

Slowly, I zipped up the front of the top due to its style and managed to tug on the sweatpants. My movements gradual and careful to prevent causing more harm to myself.

I succeeded in getting dressed, a task which had become tedious and painful as a result of the torment and strenuous jobs I was given which prevented me from getting the rest I needed to recover well.

Stretching to a standing position, I tied the strings of the sweatpants around my waist so it wouldn't fall off, prompting the waist to bulge a bit but I didn't mind.

I gave myself a quick glance in the broken mirror and exited my room, my meek expression on as always as I ignored every eyes which were directed my way and made my way to the kitchen.

The sound of glass shattering and the sight of something swishing past my head the moment I walked in made me go rigid, my eyes widening in panic as my gaze met Amanda's deranged form.

"You are lucky I missed," she snorted, amusement in her green irises as she flipped her hair over one delicate shoulder revealed by the red off-the-shoulder blouse she had on above jean trousers.

Honestly I was tired of this pack and everything in it. They had no rules or principles guiding them because how could every member of the pack including the eldest sit back when the Alpha rejected his fated mate.

That alone should be considered an insult to the moon goddess but they didn't even blink. Even when the so called Alpha's girlfriend who hadn't even been sworn in as the Luna was commanding everyone in her line of sight, they all went mute.

I knew I was an omega and deserved what I was getting, nonetheless I saw what happened to others too. Even the maids and pack members who stuck to the sick Amanda and supported her all received a twinge of her madness every now and then.

"Sorry I'm late Amanda I—" My apology or whatever was cut off as cold water stinger my skin and a bucket hit my swollen elbow.

I staggered back at the force and gripped my elbow, yelling out in agony as the spot throbbed.

"Oh don't cry yet pitiful one," Amanda murmured, her words dripping with hate as she glared at me, lips curled in a sly smile that clearly screamed her evil intentions.

"Save your tears for later," she advised and sent me a wink. "The day is just getting started."

"Yeah cursed one," her friend Emilia who had black hair just like me sneered from her right. "Now pick up the bucket and go fetch us a bucket of water from the chanting river."

"Wha- why?" I questioned in confusion as I still nursed my elbow by rubbing it gently. "What about the taps in the area. Even if you want me to go to the public one at the pack sqaure I can do that but the river is—"

"You talk too much Katrina," Amanda snorted, blowing on her nails, not even sparing me a glance anymore. "Maybe that's why Shaun rejected you."
