Chapter 9

Katrina's POV

Her words stung but I let it slide and simply left to do her bid, picking up the bucket in my right hand which was gratefully in good condition.

No matter how I tried to get rid of the hurt of his rejection or set my mind it wasn't my fault, someone or something ended up telling me otherwise and it always stung.

Heaving a sigh I walked out of the pack house and began my trek across the pack lands. It was still morning and one could hear the voices of mother's and kids as they got them prepared for school and father's get ready for the day.

The bloodmoon pack was not as developed as some others I had heard of, maybe it was because Shaun was a heartless and stupid Alpha. Sometimes I wonder what made me love him but the answer was always the damned matebond.

I exchanged no greetings with anyone I came across and no one uttered a word to me either. I was the outcast of the pack who had caused the death of both parents at her birth.

An hour went by and I approached a clearing a few meters away from the heart of the pack where everyone resided. This side was quiet and had a serene and strange air.

I continued in my strides till I came to a rock and lowered my body on it in a sitting position. Closing my eyes for a while, I inhaled and exhaled deep calming breathes.

The morning breeze was soothing as well as the warmnessof the sun. The environment was peaceful as I was all alone out there. I should have been scared but I wasn't as it felt as if where I was had to be the safest place to be in my life at that moment.

I have no idea how long I stayed there, the birds chirping in the trees music to my ears. A smile rested on my lips as I got lost in the peace that surrounded me.

"Hi," a soft voice jeered me out of my state, making me jump a bit in surprise and moved my head to the side in the direction it came from.

My brows furrowed in wonder at the lady who stood before me, carrying a bucket just like I was. She had raven colored hair, green eyes which were darker and milder than Amanda's.

She had a petite build as I was almost head level with her despite that I was sitting and she was standing, only some inches difference in our heights. She was kind of curvy and the loose-fitting sack light cloth she had on couldn't hide that.

"Hello," I murmured in greeting, a ready smile on my lips. "How are you?"

"I'm fine," she answered, her voice soothing. "Did I disturb you?"

"What?" I frowned in confusion. "Disturb me how?"

"Nothing," she shook her head. "You just appeared too peaceful, it took me a while before I walked up to you."

"Really?" I implored. "You were watching me?"

"I was," she revealed and pointed behind her. "There, in the clearing."

"Oooh," I let out, her words sinking in as I peeped behind her at where she was pointing. It happened that I was too immersed in the bliss I was feeling to sense or notice another's presence.

Not that it would be easy for me otherwise. Being without a wolf also meant I lacked sharp senses and was more like a human in every aspect, only I had werewolf genes. So it would have been really difficult for me to have noticed her even if I was completely aware of my surroundings.

"Yess," she beamed and slowly approached me as if I was a threat.

"Who are you?" I asked out of curiosity and she halted, a fearful expression crossing g her face. "No no, I'm not a hostile person don't worry."

"Okay," she nodded, her eyes wary.

"Yeah I'm not," I assured. "I just want to know."

"Okay," she repeated the single word again and I smiled kindly. "I'm the new maid brought by Amanda."

"Amanda brought you?" I questioned in shock and apprehension, offering her a suspicious glance.

"Yeah she did," she told, her gaze shifting to her hand that held the bucket.

"What?" I implored, rising from my spot and taking some steps away from her, she noticed this and her lips turned down. "Did she send you after me? To-to spy on me? To sound me out? Or drown me in the river?"

"No no no," she hurried to say and came towards me but I lifted a palm in the air for emphasis and she paused, getting the silent message.

"Then what? Why are you here?" I inquired, my eyes narrowed at her form.

"I was sent to fetch water just like you were," she sighed, placing her bucket on the floor beside her.

"Oh really," I mumbled and observed her. "Tell me something to make me believe you."

"Amanda and I are not on good terms," she elaborated while I crossed my arms and watched her, checking to see if she was trying to play me.

"How so?" I interrogated.

"Why do you think I was brought in as a maid?" She questioned.

"There could be many reasons, 90% of them which wouldn't be in my favor," I blurted, my tone low as I slowly started to get scared. "Also please answer my question without asking me yours."

"Sorry, my bad," she apologized. "Amanda and I are related. My name is Vanessa."

"That explains the green eyes," I murmured under my breath but her nod indicated she heard me. "So what caused the fallout."

"Is there really any reason for a fallout with that bitch?" She questioned in a scoff and I was surprised, that I laughed.

"Well that's true," I declared.

"We are cousins but it's only me and my mother on my side," she went on to say. "Amanda has always been a bully and a bitch. I finally stood up to her and the next thing guards came over to my house last night and dragged me out."

"What about your mother? Wasn't she shocked?" I implored, feeling sad.

"She was but there was nothing I could do when I was being dragged out," she bit her bottom lip and turned away, trying to blink back the tears.
