Days had flown by and I was back to being in hell. Amanda didn't relent as she threw insults at me and tried to mock and hit me at any chance she got.
As for Shaun, he happened to stay clear of me. He hadn't approached me personally since I chased him out of my room after he threw me in the dungeon. He even went through the trouble of avoiding eye contact.
I was ecstatic about that fact as I needs a break from his madness. I just hope he doesn't return back to being stupid soon. I loved things the way they were.
As for my health and recovery, it was going well and I was starting to heal. Vanessa had become a great help by volunteering to do the strenuous chores, therefore reducing the stress on me and giving my body time to recover.
To my surprise Vanessa had proven to be totally different than what I had thought. She happened to be the friend I needed by standing by me as she was mentally stronger and more capabable in handling pressure unlike me who succumbed to it easily.
When I asked how she became the way she was, her response was simply, "living with a bully like Amanda all your life does that to you. You either beat her or you join her."
She revealed she had refused to join her and though she broke down at times, it helped her build a strong resolve. Hearing that from her felt like a breath of fresh air and since then I'd tried to see things from a stronger and brighter perspective.
We happened to bond as time went on much to Amanda's horror as we were inseparable and did almost everything together. Vanessa was a stubborn one so there was only little Amanda could do.
Amanda tried to hide her worry at our closeness, however it was difficult not to notice her. Just like the way she kept giving us glances every now and then as Vannessa and I attended to the dishes in the kitchen.
It was supposed to be a task for me but the kind girl had taken over with the saying that my elbow needs to heal completely before I'm fully back to my activities.
"Here, take this," the raven haired girl stretched out a hand holding a towel toward me. "You can dry them if you are up for it, if not I'll do it."
"I'm already grateful for your help Vanessa," I declared in honesty, taking the towel from her hold. "I can even wash if you permitted me to."
"Not until your elbow's better," she warned, her eyes stern as they pointed at me. "I've told you while I'm here I'll help you out and make sure you recover."
"Thank you," I murmured and she smiled, pointing at the plates ready to be dried.
I bobbed my head in understanding and began doing drying the plates and cups, spoons and knives. I made sure to not leave a drop of wetness on them and put them where they were meant to be.
"Two ugly losers standing in the kitchen," someone shouted in a sing song voice as a new presence entered the kitchen.
"K-I-S-S-I-N-G," Amanda finished and the two burst out in a mocking laugh.
Briefly I turned my head in their direction and wasn't the least bit shocked to see one of Amanda's friends. Gina was her name, she had fiery red hair and blue eyes.
She was a daughter from one of the elite families in the back and of course just like Amanda she was a total narcissist. She caught me staring and sneered at me. "What are you looking at wimp?"
"Don't fret Gina," Vanessa spoke up before I could think of a response. "She was only looking at birds of the same feather who tend to flock together."
"What?" Gina questioned, her brows furrowing in confusion. To my amusement she shifted her gaze behind and around her. "Did a bird get in here Amanda?"
Amanda didn't answer her, instead she fired us a glare that could roast us in our spot if it was possible. Her whole demeanor indicated fury as I could observe fire leaving her nostrils.
"No Gina," Amanda finally gave her friend an answer. "There was no bird."
"Then what was she referring to then if there was no bird?" Gina asked, completely clueless.
I was beginning to feel sorry for Gina while Vanessa was trying very hard to hold in a laugh. I didn't have adequate education than most werewolves, however I tried my best to learn how to read and meet up with the trends of the society.
So I was really surprised to see she didn't understand what Vannessa meant. Shifting my attention to Vannessa whose shoulders were shaking in humor as she released some chuckles in silent laughter.
"How did she sing the bird song if she doesn't know the sentence 'birds of the same feather flock together?" I couldn't hold my curiosity as the question popped into my head.
"She has the brain of a child," Vannessa snickered. "That was a nursery rhyme."
"Ooooh," I let out in quiet chuckles, what she meant clicking.
"I know her from way back," Vanessa went on to say. "She's a dumb one."
The noise of plastic hitting the floor jeered us as it was unexpected. A plate slipped from my hold, provoking me to scramble for some moments till I caught it, preventing a crash and another round of punishment.
"You are lucky that didn't break," Amanda sneered. "Would have broken another on your head to get even."
I instantly cowered at her tone, my hand shaking as I fit it into the plate rack. "Sorry Amanda."
"Good to see you still know who's in charge," she snorted, a smirk curling her lips.
Vannessa's lips on the other hand thinned in a scowl as she pushed me aside softly, drying the rest of the utensils and putting them in the right places.
"Since you both enjoy each other's company," Amanda grunted and pointed at the floor where two buckets lay. "Take this and head to the river to get us water."
"Forget about them Amanda," Gina uttered as Amands continued to glare at us. "I heard the werewolf king will be visiting out pack."
