Katrina's POV
"Hurry," I said to Vannessa who was getting dressed while I stood beside her, already dressed.
We were in my room. Vanessa was not given a place to stay when she was brought and the maids wouldn't want to get on Amanda's bad side by accomading her in their quarters.
I only found this out some days after we met. It was early in the morning and I was heading to run an early errand Amanda had indicated to me the previous day when I observed her sleeping beside my door.
She didn't know it was my room by then. Feeling sympathetic and deciding to give her a chance, I let her sleep in with me after I warned her about its state.
To my surprise she didn't act disgusted or flinched instead she was grateful and it was nice having company and someone to share the days events with.
Vanessa loved to discuss and badmouth people a lot so sharing chats with her was always fun. Staying together made us bond more with each other and she got really comfortable with me.
It was sometime in the afternoon and a uniform was handed to us some minutes prior. The whole pack outside the door was buzzing with the news of the Alpha King who was coming to visit.
Nobody knew why he was coming hence it was a rare occasion and an honor for the strongest of the Lycans to do such. It had been ages since he made a move to a pack.
Shaun was swooning over this fact by going around and saying it was because he was the best Alpha yet who took care of his pack and made immense progress as the Alpha.
Amanda herself was up on her high horse, singing the information like a song every chance she got as she rubbed the fact on everyone's face about how she would be meeting the Lycan King as a dignitary.
Why were we getting dressed you may ask? Well Amanda shocked us with the uniform and asked us to hurriedly put them on as he would be arriving soon.
I guess she had a bit of a conscience or maybe felt she would be criticized or something if I was seen in tatters or looking unkept. One thing I had come to know about the Lycan king was that he was ruthless and at the same hated any form of discrimination.
His words had always been all are equal which was why the peace between the werewolves and Lycans was hanging on a balance and if my instincts were correct maybe it was one of the reasons he was visiting this pack.
"You both are taking your time in there," a knock followed by the voice of one of the maids sounded at the door. "We've still got things to do."
"See why I told you to hurry?" I questioned in a sigh at Vannessa who was just busy tying the strings of the uniform behind her back.
The material was in a blue shade and appeared like a refined hospital scrub. It had four pockets. Two pockets at the top corner on each side of the breasts while the other was on the thigh side as front pockets.
It was around 2 in the afternoon, and everyone in the pack was busting with activity. The pack house was worst as last minute preparations were ongoing before his arrival which could be anytime.
"You know it won't be pretty if Amanda shows up here right?" The maid went on to say in more of a question.
"There's only much Amanda can do right?" Vanessa replied in the same manner and once again, I wondered at her audacity.
We strolled to the door and she pulled it ajar. The maid there eyed us as we stepped out and strolled forward while Vannessa smirked at me as we followed her.
The hall was crowded as everyone was busy, some men were setting up the extra lights to brighten up the space for night time. Flower vases were being set up with fresh selected species from the garden, adding beauty to the white walls.
"What are you two standing around there like a pile of bricks?" Amanda screeched, making us whirl around instantly to spot her coming down the stairs, already dressed.
Her blue sharp mouthed heels clicked as she descended, her icy blue dress flowing behind her like a tail. It was of a beautiful design with short off-the-shoulder sleeves, the neckline having a deep V to show a bit of her breasts.
It had a corset style below the breast area and the material hugged her body from the waist down, a slit on both sides of her thigh. Her sharp green eyes shone and she strolled towards us with her shoulder held high in pride.
"We just wore our uniforms," I answered for the both of us and bowed my head as she approached.
"Something that should have taken only seconds," she sneered, about to lift a palm to smack me but thought better of it. "But I'm sure took you hours judging by how you two are standing idle."
"What should we do?" I implored while Vanessa kept mute, her expression stoic and Amanda didn't dare spare her a glance.
"Find somewhere and fix yourself," she muttered, waving her fingers in the air as if she didn't want to waste her time on us.
"Okay Amanda," I said and brushed Vannessa by the shoulder, silently urging her to say something at least.
"You know what?" She asked as if changing her mind and I was right when she turned to the men fixing the lights.
"What?" Vannessa finally spoke by asking.
"Katrina," Amanda called my name and I faced her. "Go help those men there and do whatever they ask you to without complain."
"What about Vanessa?" I questioned wanting my ally with me.
"I need to separate you two for once," she scoffed and turned to the girl. "You, head to the kitchen and help them in cooking."
"The Lycan king is here," a guard rushed in from the entrance and announced as he bowed to Amanda in greeting.
