Katrina's POV
The words flew past my ear as every other person in the room went still for a moment as the news settled in their system. Amanda inhaled a deep breath and nodded at the guard who exited after.
"You all heard the guard," she said in a loud tone. "Round up whatever it is you are doing and leave as soon as you can."
"If you can't round up everything then pack up and leave," she issued out the command, clapping her hands rapidly for emphasis.
The men whom I was about to work with began climbing down the ladder and packed up their equipments. I tried to help but they shook their heads no. They didn't appear familiar and I wondered where they were from and if they were humans, wolves or lycans.
Another side effect of not having a wolf, I couldn't sense or figure out simple things like that. Except if I was told or if a situation came up that somehow revealed it to me.
"Katrina!" Amanda yelled my name all of a sudden and I jumped, wondering what the problem was this time.
"Yes Amanda," I replied in an exasperated tone when I observed no reason for her scream.
"Soon it would be Luna to you," she spat. "Cut that tone and continue to show me the respect I deserve. He rejected you as a mate, so learn to live with it."
"I've already learnt to live with it Amanda," I confessed, having no need to hide my feelings. "Why did you call me again? As you can see I'm already doing as you said."
"Leave that, they are done," she revealed what I already knew and so I kept quiet for her to continue. "Head to the kitchen after Vannessa. Also tell them our guest has arrived which means they should hurry the damn well up with what they are preparing, even if they have to burn themselves under the pots and pans to hasten the process."
I simply stood still as she ranted, not uttering a word. "Okay Amanda, I will."
"Good," she declared and inhaled a deep breath, shutting her eyes in a bid to calm down. She really needed to thus she appeared as if her head was about to blow off from steam. "Now go."
I nodded at her though she couldn't see me because her eyes were still closed and quickly made my way to the kitchen, not ready for another yell or insult if she unraveled her lids and spotted me still standing there.
"Amanda said to hurry up with the cooking," I pronounced the moment I stepped foot into the heated room. "Even if we have to burn ourselves in the flame to make everything ready in seconds."
"Why is her panties in a twist?" Vanessa was the only one to speak as she handed over a jar of seasoning to another maid.
"The Lycan King has arrived," I informed and they paused mid action, eyes wide at the realization.
"That explains it," Vannessa scoffed and dusted her fingers on her uniform.
"We would be called to serve any minute so it would be best to get things ready," I said kindly at them, having no hard feelings toward anyone except the bitch who's aim was to belittle me.
"Amanda said to tell you to hurry up because the Lyc—" Gina started to repeat the message I had just passed as she strolled into the kitchen, hair in a bun and an hourglass body in a red jumpsuit.
"Lycan King is here and to burn ourselves it would blah blah blah," Vanessa finished after cutting off her statement. "Katrina had just filled us in, no need to repeat."
"Oh," she let out, dumbfounded but tried to act composed. Someone snorted while I whirled to face the wall so I wouldn't be caught with humor written all over my facial features. "I was just told to say it in case this piece of trash here was too dumb and forgot."
"Like you aren't the dumb one," Vanessa muttered and at that point it took everything in me not to roll on the floor while I had a laughing fit.
"She didn't Gina," I heard someone else speak in my favor to my surprise but due to my position I couldn't see who it was. I instead made a mental note to ask Vanessa about it later.
Gina left after that and we all focused on the task at hand. I trudged to where Vannessa was being a kitchen assistant. She pointed at an empty tray and plates and I bobbed my head in understanding.
Not needing to be told, I set the plates and utensils on the tray, brininging out another and doing same. While I did this the kitchen was filled with the nice aroma of the chicken curry which was part of the large course meal the Lycan King was going to be served.
Minutes went by and soon Amanda walked in, thankfully the meal was ready to be served when she did. "Good to see you maids finished on time."
"Put them all into the fancy dishes," she commanded. "You three, get to it right now."
"You heard your future Luna," Deanna her other friend who was rarely at the pack house shouted at us.
"Katrina and Janice," she appointed at me and another maid. "You two, bring it over to the dining area once they are done."
She left and I simply stood waiting for the maids to do what they were asked. It didn't take long for everything to be set and I was the first to carry a tray, wanting to get it over with and hopefully get time to discuss with Vanessa.
Tracing my way back to the hall, I trudged toward a door which housed a long table and chairs used for official visits and meetings like the one happening.
"I hope this your visit Darvos is a sign of peace?" I heard Shaun's arrogant voice ask from behind the door.
"I can't say," a deep and oddly familiar voice answered making me search my brain for a clue but I came up with nothing. "Not when I've heard about how careless of an Alpha you you are and how you treat some of your subordinates and people."
