The Noble Who Coveted Power
Duke Reynard Grahm was a man who desired absolute power. A high-ranking noble, he was known for his ambition, arrogance, and ruthlessness. However, there was one thing he could not stand—Frank Luminous.
"A lazy fool who does nothing yet bears the Luminous name?" Reynard sneered. "What an insult to nobility!"
The rumors were spreading—the Emperor himself hesitated before Frank, and the Assassin's Guild declared him untouchable. Reynard refused to believe it.
"How can a man who does nothing be a threat?" he scoffed.
Determined to prove Frank was just a worthless noble, Reynard made a reckless decision.
He would challenge Frank Luminous to a duel.
An Invitation to Battle
At Luminous Manor, Frank lay on a couch, flipping through a book while Elise poured him tea. The air was peaceful.
Then, a loud knock shattered the silence.
Elise frowned and opened the door, revealing a noble dressed in extravagant clothing—a messenger from Duke Reynard.
"The esteemed Duke Reynard Grahm has issued a formal challenge to Lord Frank Luminous." The messenger handed over a letter with a golden seal.
Elise's expression darkened. "A duel?"
Frank, who had barely glanced up from his book, sighed. "Again?"
Elise clenched the letter. It wasn't the first time some noble tried to challenge Frank, and each time, it ended in humiliating failure—though none of them knew why.
She turned to Frank. "Should I reject it?"
Frank shrugged. "Accept it."
Elise blinked. He actually agreed?
Frank yawned. "I suppose it's time someone learned a lesson."
The Duel Begins
The duel was set in the Royal Coliseum, a grand arena where nobles and knights tested their skills. The seats were packed with high-ranking officials, all eager to see Frank Luminous humiliated.
At the center of the arena stood Duke Reynard, clad in golden armor. He grinned confidently, holding an enchanted sword that radiated power.
On the other side…
Frank stood lazily, wearing his usual loose robes, his expression indifferent. He didn't even bring a weapon.
Laughter erupted from the crowd.
"He's not even taking this seriously!"
"Duke Reynard will crush him in an instant!"
The referee stepped forward. "The duel begins in three… two…"
Before he could finish, Reynard lunged forward, swinging his sword with all his strength.
A direct hit.
The crowd gasped in shock.
But the sword stopped an inch from Frank's neck.
Reynard's body froze mid-motion. His muscles refused to move.
Sweat poured down his face. He couldn't even breathe.
Frank tilted his head, his golden eyes glowing faintly.
"I gave you a chance to reconsider," he said lazily. "But you insisted."
Reynard felt something worse than death—a crushing force that made his entire existence feel insignificant.
Frank raised his hand.
A gust of wind swept through the coliseum, and Reynard's enchanted sword crumbled into dust.
The arena fell silent.
Frank sighed. "Are we done?"
Reynard collapsed to his knees, his mind broken. He could no longer process what just happened.
The nobles, the officials, even the Emperor himself—all of them sat in stunned silence.
No one would ever challenge Frank Luminous again.
Because now they understood.
He was beyond them.
