February 19, 2010 – 7:00 PMLocation: Aritra's Villa – Living Room
The sky outside had already turned a deep shade of indigo, but Aritra's living room was aglow with the warm luminescence of the oversized television screen. Katherine sat curled into the corner of the couch, her legs folded beneath her, absentmindedly flipping through an old book, though her gaze flickered to the screen every few moments.
On the center table lay two cups of steaming Darjeeling tea, forgotten the moment the Nova Electronics Global Launch Event began.
Aritra sat at the far end of the sofa, his back straight, remote resting on the armrest beside him. Despite his calm exterior, there was a faint, predatory gleam in his eyes — the same gleam he always had when something irreversible was about to unfold.
On-screen, Vikram Menon, the newly appointed face of Nova Electronics, stood behind a minimalist podium. Dressed in a perfectly tailored charcoal suit, he was flanked by two towering LED panels that pulsed with synchronized light patterns, almost as if the technology itself was breathing.
"Good evening, everyone," Vikram's voice rang out, smooth and confident. "And welcome to the future."
The chat feed on the side of the screen exploded immediately.

👤 TechGuruUSA: Future? More like overpriced toys for billionaires. 😂👤 DesiInnovator: Stop crying. For once India is leading tech and you can't handle it.👤 EU_GearReview: Let's see if it's actually better or just more marketing hype.👤 JaiHind47: Proud moment! Make in India — Future of the world! 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳👤 BostonTechKing: No offense but there's no way some Indian startup has better tech than Samsung or Apple. Let's be real.
Vikram smiled, as if he could sense the skepticism radiating through millions of screens. "We aren't just unveiling a phone today. We are unveiling a platform, a new way to experience the world — powered directly by our next-generation satellite 5G network."
The chat feed flickered again.
👤 FutureNerd2020: Satellite 5G my ass. No towers? No infrastructure? Scam alert!👤 **ChennaiBoy: **Even if 5G is real, the phone will probably cost 5 lakh rupees. 😂👤 LondonLad: No towers, no cables — straight to space? That's sci-fi nonsense.👤 DesiLion: Wait till you see it, losers. 🇮🇳
Vikram gestured to the left, and a rotating hologram of the first device flickered into existence — Nova One Ultima. Its polished titanium body shimmered under the spotlight, the curved edges and ceramic back giving it an otherworldly elegance.
"Let's talk about the experience." Vikram raised the phone, facing the camera. "Let's start with speed."
He swiped on the screen, and the hologram shifted, showing a download test. A 2GB 8K animation file appeared on screen.
"Two gigs — standard animation package. Let's download it."
The countdown began.
3 seconds.That was it.
The chat erupted.
👤 NYCTechie: No f***ing way.👤 DelhiTechNerd: ARE YOU SERIOUS??👤 BerlinEngineer: CGI fake. There's no way that's real.👤 DesiDreamer: My broadband takes 30 minutes to do that. Holy shit.👤 LA_Dad: If that's real, Apple and Samsung are dead.
Vikram wasn't done. "And what's speed without visuals?"
The camera zoomed into the phone's screen, which shifted into HDR mode under direct sunlight simulation. Colors burst forth — hyper-saturated, yet perfectly balanced. The 8K SuperNova Display showed close-ups of dew drops on leaves, the shimmer of light reflecting from them so lifelike, it felt almost touchable.
The camera then shifted to Vikram's hand as he opened the camera app.
"This… is not just a phone camera." Vikram raised it toward the live audience gathered at Nova's headquarters. "This is a lens into the future."
He tapped the shutter button.
A 108-megapixel ultra-wide shot appeared, instantly zooming into individual pores on a man's face standing 30 meters away. His ID badge text was crystal clear. Noise? None.
The feed went silent.
👤 TokyoTinker: WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?👤 TechReviewUK: That's security camera-level clarity… in a PHONE?👤 MumbaiProud: We made it, guys. We finally f***ing made it.👤 SiliconValleyCowboy: Either this is fake or Apple is done.
Vikram wasn't finished.
"Now, let's talk about pricing."
He turned to the giant screen, which displayed:
🇮🇳 India Prices (INR)
Nova One Ultima – ₹1,89,999Nova One Pro – ₹1,49,999Nova One Edge – ₹1,09,999
🌍 International Prices (USD)
Nova One Ultima – $3,599Nova One Pro – $2,799Nova One Edge – $2,099
Vikram smiled knowingly. "For years, you've been paying inflated prices for imported technology. Today, you're getting better technology — made right here in India — at a fraction of that cost."
The Indian chat went ballistic.
👤 BangaloreTechie: HOLY SHIT THAT'S CHEAPER THAN IPHONE 3GS!👤 RaviFromPunjab: 8K screen, space internet, and better camera… at less than 2 lakhs?👤 TechYogi: Westerners pay double? Good. Let them feel the pain we felt for decades.👤 NYInvestor: This is economic terrorism!! They're undercutting the whole industry!!
Vikram delivered his final punch.
"Our devices will only work with the Nova 5G Satellite Network, and we are not licensing this technology to any other provider."
For a moment, the chat froze.
Then chaos.
👤 BerlinTech: MONOPOLY ALERT!!!👤 TokyoFuture: Genius. Greedy. Evil. All at once.👤 Patriot1971: Let them cry. Finally, Indian technology dominating the world!👤 TechWarsNY: If they control the whole network…we're all screwed.
Back in the villa, Aritra leaned back slightly, his fingers gently tapping against the armrest. Katherine glanced at him, her brow furrowed.
"You… you're really enjoying this," she said quietly.
Aritra's expression didn't change. "It's not about enjoyment."
"Then what is it about?" she asked, more softly this time.
Aritra's gaze remained fixed on the screen. "Control."
Vikram's voice rang out again.
"Pre-orders open tonight. Deliveries begin in 30 days."
