The Prince Growing Doubts

The Prince's Growing Doubts

Mai stood frozen, her breath uneven as the warm breeze faded. The Queen's voice had been so clear, yet so distant, leaving her rattled. She turned around, half expecting to see a ghost, but all she found was the bewildered gaze of the palace guard staring at her from a distance.

Her heart pounded. Had she truly lost herself in anger? The reality hit her hard—she had just yelled at a voice no one else could hear, right in the middle of the palace courtyard.

The guard hesitated for a moment before stepping forward. "Lady Mai..." he began cautiously. "The King requests your presence. Again."

Mai's fists clenched. She had no desire to go back to that suffocating throne room. But defying the King twice in one day? That was reckless.

"Tell him I'll come when I'm ready," she muttered, turning away.

"But Lady Mai—"

"Just go!" she snapped, before storming toward the palace gardens.
