A Prince’s Restless Thoughts

A Prince's Restless Thoughts

Meanwhile, in the grand halls of the palace, Prince Lilian paced his chambers, restless and agitated. His father's words still echoed in his mind:

"She was brought here for a reason, and she will fulfill that duty whether she likes it or not!"

At first, he hadn't cared much about Mai. She was just another nuisance forced upon him. But now… something was different. She was different.

Why did she react so strongly to his father's demands? Why did she look so burdened, as if she carried the weight of something much larger than just training him?

A soft knock on his door interrupted his thoughts. It was Sofia.

"You've been pacing for almost an hour," she said, leaning against the doorway with her arms crossed.

Lilian sighed. "I don't understand her."

"Mai?" Sofia guessed, stepping inside.

He didn't reply. He didn't have to.

"She's scared," Sofia continued. "And for good reason."

Lilian frowned. "Scared? Of what?"

Sofia hesitated before finally saying, "The King."

The words sent a chill down his spine.

"What are you talking about?" he demanded. "She's stubborn, reckless, and frustrating, but she's not scared of my father."

Sofia lowered her voice. "Maybe not in the way you think. But trust me, she's caught up in something bigger than either of us."

Lilian narrowed his eyes. "You know something."

Sofia hesitated, then shook her head. "Not enough to tell you. Not yet."

Lilian clenched his jaw. He hated secrets. And he hated that Mai was at the center of one.

--

As night fell, Mai sat in the palace gardens, her thoughts a mess. The Queen's voice, the prophecy, the King's demands—it was too much.

Then, a shadow approached.

"You're getting reckless," Sofia whispered, appearing beside her.

Mai turned sharply. "You heard me, didn't you?"

"Everyone did," Sofia said. "You were yelling at thin air."

Mai groaned, burying her face in her hands. "They think I'm insane, don't they?"

"Some do," Sofia admitted. "But some… are starting to wonder if there's more to you than meets the eye."

Mai looked up, confusion in her eyes. "What do you mean?"

Sofia hesitated before finally whispering, "Meet me at the old tower tomorrow night. There's something you need to see."

Mai's pulse quickened.

"What is it?" she asked.

Sofia's eyes darkened. "Proof."
