Chapter Twelve

Third Person's POV

In a room in the Alpha's mansion, Alpha Kane, David, Mia and Kevin's wife stand while an old man with white hair who is the pack doctor checks Kevin's pulse and examines his eyes one after the other.

He then turned to look at Alpha Kane who was standing at the extreme of the room with his hands folded to his body and his jaw clenched.

"He is going to be fine", the pack doctor reassured, "Just make sure he drinks this when he wakes up and sits upright."

The doctor drops a little transparent bottle containing a clear liquid. He picks his suitcase, stands up and walks to Alpha Kane.

"I will send my assistant daily to change the bandage on his head."

"Thank you doctor."

Alpha Kane looks relieved a little and has a hopeful expression on his face.

"It's my duty."

The doctor nods and walks out of the room leaving only Alpha Kane, Mia and David with an unconscious Kevin and his worried wife.

David turns to look at his father and asks, "Father do you know who those men I told you about earlier are?"

Alpha Kane inhales deeply and exhales, rubbing his temple with his left hand while his right hand is on his waist.

"They are called the phoenix brothers. They are one of the many rogues that I banished out of the pack before you were born, never knew that they would return back."

" I don't think they ever left", Mia retorts causing Alpha Kane and the others to look at her, "they called David young Alpha."

"Actually, any wolf can recognize their Alpha or the son of an Alpha", Alpha Kane says.

"He is not your first son, nevermind."

Alpha Kane furrowed his brows as he looked down to the ground.

"And lest I forget, they put a collar on my neck that weakened me. Do you know what that is?"

Alpha Kane's mouth was agape

"It's called the phoenix ring. I banned the use of it several years ago and orders every existing one to be burnt."

Mia chuckled causing everyone to look at her.

"What is funny?", Alpha Kane bellowed.

"Father", David called softly, "those men ordered Mia to kill me. I don't think they are after me but you."

"What do you mean?", Alpha Kane asked, his eyes narrowing.

Kevin began to cough as his wife rushed to help him sit up while Mia dashed for the bottle,opened it and with his wife's aid forced it down his throat.

He grimaced and shivered and his eyes twitched several times as his ragged breathing returned back to normal.

He looked at all the faces from Alpha Kane to David's to Mia and he then turned to look at his wife who was holding him with teary eyes.

"Amelia", he croaked.

Amelia nodded and when she tried to speak she ended up bursting into tears as they hugged each other.

After some time, they both stabilized their emotions as Amelia held Kevin's face with both hands saying,

"The doctor said you are going to be fine."

"Of course", Kevin chuckled, "I am not going anywhere."

They both smiled at each other and shared a kiss. Mia giggled.

Kevin turned to look at David

"Thank you for helping me."

David nodded and replied, "It's my duty."

Kevin breathed out a sigh of relief.

"Kevin, who knocked you out cold on the head in the woods", Alpha Kane asked. He maintained eye contact with Kevin as he moved slowly towards him.

Kevin took a deep breath and said,

"May I start from the beginning?"

"Of course."

"I received a letter in the morning with you seal ordering me to come to the woods immediately and not tell anyone not even Amelia where I am going", Kevin said.

"I heard you talking to someone in the front porch, who was it?", Amelia asked.

Kevin looked confused, " The only person I talked to in the morning was you. When I heard the doorbell ring, I went to answer it and I saw no one but a letter on the floor."

The room went quiet as everyone was trying to figure out what Kevin just said. David and Mia looked at each other, they wondered if the other had the same thoughts as the other.

" I think it's an illusion or a hallucinating act", David said.

" Yeah, like the car that vanished."

David faced his father and asked, " Father do you know anyone who has the power to cast an illusion or make someone hallucinate? I think if we have anyone in this pack, they should be brought in for questioning."

Alpha Kane's face turned pale as he avoided eye contact with his son.

" Father", David called but Alpha Kane bolted out of the room without looking back leaving them confused.

David and Mia sat together in the rose garden as each of them were immersed in their own separate thoughts.

Mia turned to face David and said, "Perhaps, we should ask your mother. She's the Luna after all."

David nodded, "You are right. Let's go find her."

David and Mia stood up and as they turned to leave the rose garden, they saw the Luna all smiles coming to meet them.

"Where's your father? I wanted to tell....", The Luna stopped talking as she realized the grim look on David's face.

"What's the problem?", She asked.

David kept mute. The Luna turned to look at Mia so Mia answered instead

"We asked Alpha Kane a question but he ran away."

"What was the question?"

"Mia stole a glance at David before continuing, "If there was anyone in the pack who has the power to create illusions and cast hallucinations."

The Luna's face turned ugly and Mia's heart skipped a beat as she wondered if she had struck a wrong chord.

"Of course there was one woman with that gift, a seductress at heart. She tried to destroy this pack but was stopped by me."

"Who was she mother?", David asked.

The Luna scoffed and turned to leave but not before saying,

"Your father's former lover."
