She shook off Ava's hand and stared coldly at her.
"Sister, I know you're my sister, but I've been taking the blame for you for ten years. Every time Mom brings it up, she beats me and blames me for crippling your leg. I've endured it all for you, but today, I won’t take the blame for you anymore."
Ava tightened her grip on Sophia's hand, her nails digging deep into Sophia's arm.
"Sophia, I know you don't want to marry Joseph, but don't speak recklessly," she said, her voice cold and low. "As a member of the Martinez Family, you can't be reckless and ruin our chance at wealth. You must apologize to the Garcia Family, and you can’t be late for the wedding tomorrow. As for..."
She paused, her voice turning even colder. "As for what happens after you get married, my mother and I have already discussed it. You'll marry Joseph, and I'll sleep with him and bear his child. You'll become the Garcia Family’s wife, and I won’t mistreat my little sister."
Sophia looked down at her bleeding arm, squeezed tightly by Ava. She heard Ava’s words, and they sounded like the biggest joke she had ever heard.
Listening to her sister’s words and looking at her family, people she had loved since childhood, Sophia realized that when it came to their interests, they didn’t even see her as a human being.
"I'll marry Joseph, and you, my sister, will have his child and become the Garcia Family’s wife. Then what am I, the one who was supposed to be Mrs. Garcia?" she said, laughing bitterly. Her disappointment in her family was clear in her smile.
"Good sister, I was just a stepping stone for you to become Mrs. Garcia, but in the end, I was kicked away with nothing. Your true nature hasn’t changed after so many years, and your schemes are louder than ever. But I won’t let you have your way."
Sophia turned to Abigail coldly. "It was never me who caused my sister’s leg to be crippled. In the third year of junior high, she stole the school beauty’s boyfriend and became the third party. She got beaten up by the school beauty’s friends, and that’s how her leg was broken. She was afraid of the scandal, so she blamed me, saying she saved me from getting hit by a car. Don't try to pin this on me."
Abigail was stunned and looked at Ava in surprise.
Ava’s eyes flashed with panic, and she quickly explained, "Mom, little sister is lying. She’s framing me because she doesn’t want to marry Joseph."
Abigail’s gaze flickered between Sophia and Ava.
"Sophia, you little brat, you're so vicious!"
"I knew you wouldn’t believe me and would side with my sister instead."
Sophia pushed Ava away and took out her phone.
She played a video. "The whole school knew she became a third party and had her leg broken. This video was sent to me by the school beauty’s sister to mock me. Luckily, I didn’t have money to buy a new phone, so I’ve been using this one for years, and the video is still saved."
Abigail's eyes locked onto the phone screen, her face stiffening as she watched the video.
Ava looked at Sophia in shock.
She couldn’t believe that after all these years, Sophia still had the humiliating video that exposed her.
Her face turned pale, then red with embarrassment and anger.
"Oh..." She suddenly collapsed to the ground.
Abigail rushed over to help Ava up. "What happened? Did Sophia push you?" she asked, worried.
"Mom, Sophia pushed me!" Ava cried, tears streaming down her face.
"You little brat!" Abigail glared at Sophia. "How dare you push your sister? You’re getting too full of yourself, aren’t you?"
Sophia found Ava’s words ridiculous.
She had pushed Ava earlier, yet Ava had only just collapsed now?
But Abigail was blind, only seeing what she wanted to believe.
"Don't blame my sister, Mom," Ava said, giving Sophia a sly look. "Don’t believe her lies. I've never been a third party in anyone's relationship. These days, video editing is so advanced, she could have easily faked the video to frame me."
Before Abigail could respond, Ava continued, looking pitiful. "Sophia, I know you don’t want to marry Joseph, but you can’t use me as an excuse. I saved you when you hurt your leg, and now you’re treating me like this? How could you be so ungrateful?"
"I'm ungrateful? Ha..." Sophia saw through Ava’s tricks instantly and laughed coldly. "I may be cruel, but I don’t have the same poison in my heart as this family. I am your sister and Abigail’s daughter. How could you hurt me like this? Or am I just a foundling?"
"You’re just a..." Abigail almost said something she shouldn’t have, but she quickly snapped, "You wicked thing! You’re as venomous as a snake, trying to harm your sister just because you refuse to marry Joseph!"
Sophia didn’t want to waste her breath. "I won’t attend the wedding tomorrow, and I won’t give you the chance to plot against me anymore. From now on, I’m cutting ties with you."
Abigail had always favored Ava. Seeing Ava crying in pain and hearing Sophia talk about cutting ties, she immediately roared,
"Sophia, kneel down for me!"
"Never!" Sophia lifted her chin slightly and spat out two cold words.
Abigail glared at her, face as cold as iron. "Sophia, I am your mother, and that's something you can never change! As my daughter, you have an obligation to support me, and an even greater obligation to bring me a good life! You can forget about cutting ties!"
Sophia sneered. "I have an obligation to support you. But if you want me to sell myself to give you a life of wealth and luxury, you can forget about it!"
"How is marrying Master Garcia selling yourself?" Abigail shouted furiously. "As Mrs. Garcia, you would enjoy a life of honor and riches! What is there to be unhappy about?"
"Let me be Mrs. Garcia? Don’t make me laugh!" Sophia looked at Abigail mockingly, then pointed at Ava. "If she wants to marry Joseph, she can do it herself. I won’t be your stepping stone."
"If your sister wasn’t crippled, would you even have a chance?" Abigail exploded with rage. "Sophia, go apologize to Master Garcia right now! Even if you have to kneel and beg, the wedding must happen tomorrow!"
"That’s impossible!" Sophia was firm.
Kneel before Joseph and beg for his forgiveness?
Not in this lifetime, nor the next!
Abigail rushed toward her, looking fierce.
Sophia caught Abigail’s hand mid-swing, her gaze cold. "My name is Sophia. I am no longer your daughter. If you dare to hit me, I will fight back. Don't test me."
With that, she threw Abigail's hand aside.
Abigail staggered but steadied herself.
"You know the wedding venue. If you don’t marry Master Garcia tomorrow, I will make sure you never live in peace!"
"If you dare, try it!" Sophia left without looking back.
As dusk fell, Abigail's angry voice still echoed behind her.
Just as she stepped outside, a Ferrari pulled up.
"Sophia, how does it feel to break away from your family?" Joseph asked smugly.
