"My name is Sophia," she said coldly, looking at the four disheveled women in front of her.
The room fell silent. The women who had insulted her moments ago were now stunned. None of them had expected this beautiful woman to be the CEO’s secretary.
"Do you... do you know who I am? How dare you, a newcomer, hit me?" The woman Sophia had slapped was furious.
Sophia raised her hand and slapped her again, leaving her completely stunned.
"I don’t need to know who you are. I only know that people like you, who have no humanity, need to be dealt with."
"I’m a supervisor! I won’t let you go!" The woman clutched her face, crying in anger.
"If you have the guts, come at me," Sophia replied, unfazed. "I’ll be waiting for you in the CEO’s office."
Years of experience in the workplace had taught her that some women were natural enemies—especially those who had their eyes on Robert, the most eligible bachelor in River City. As the newly appointed CEO’s secretary, she knew they wouldn’t let her off easily.
To establish herself, she first had to establish her authority.
She wasn’t someone they could bully.
"What can a CEO’s secretary do? With your vulgar behavior, no matter what tricks you used to get that position, Robert won’t be interested in you," a pleasant but mocking voice suddenly interrupted.
Sophia turned her head and saw a seductive woman standing at the door, wearing a bright red short skirt that barely covered anything. Her chest was nearly exposed.
The women Sophia had slapped earlier immediately ran to her. "Miss Anna, you came just in time! The CEO’s secretary is using her position to bully us!"
"I saw everything," Anna said, her tone sweet but filled with jealousy and malice. "Sophia is abusing her position to bully others."
Sophia didn’t get angry. Instead, she smiled.
Anna was blatantly framing her, even though it was the other women who had started the fight.
She had never heard of Robert having a sister, but Anna’s hostility made it obvious—she must be his lover.
But so what?
She was Robert’s legal wife. No mistress could bully her.
"You look really pretty," she said with an ambiguous smile.
Anna was taken aback. She hadn’t expected a compliment.
Proud as a peacock, she lifted her chin and coldly replied, "Of course, I’m pretty."
"I meant your lipstick," Sophia chuckled.
Anna’s face stiffened. "Are you mocking me for choosing the wrong shade?"
"Yes," Sophia said without hesitation. "Look at you, dressed like that. If I didn’t know better, I’d think you were in an… illicit profession."
Anna’s face turned green. "Sophia, you b*tch! What did you just say?!"
"Is it bad to be an animal?" Sophia’s smile grew. "You don’t need to make things difficult for yourself trying to understand human language."
"Sophia, I’ll tear your mouth apart!" Anna raised her hand to slap her.
But before she could react, Sophia slapped her first.
A loud "smack" echoed through the room. Five red finger marks instantly appeared on Anna’s face.
"You... you..." Anna stammered.
"Oh, so you’re a stutterer?" Sophia sneered. "If you have a problem, go see a doctor. If you can’t speak properly, don’t talk nonsense."
"Robert hates troublemakers, Sophia! I don’t care who you are, but I will make sure you’re kicked out of the Miller Family today!" Anna declared angrily.
Sophia didn’t care. She knew word of what had happened would spread quickly throughout the Miller Family Group. If Robert wanted to punish her, so be it.
But she would never let anyone bully her.
She had nothing but herself. If she couldn’t even protect herself, then she truly had nothing.
She sat at her desk, flipping through Robert’s schedule again and again, feeling bored and restless.
"Sophia, you’re ready to leave the Miller Family," Anna’s voice rang out again.
Sophia had heard the clicking of high heels long before Anna appeared. She knew Robert’s mistress had come to stir up trouble.
She wasn’t afraid.
As Anna strode into Robert’s office, Sophia stood up and followed her inside.
"Robert, I heard you brought in a new secretary, so I came to take a look. But then I saw her in the pantry—stealing company funds and even hitting me! She even tore my skirt!"
As she spoke, Anna lifted the hem of her dress, revealing the clearly torn fabric.
Sophia glanced at it, speechless.
Anna was really something. Trying to frame her while seducing Robert at the same time.
Robert’s face remained cold, his tall figure exuding a chilling aura. His deep, black eyes locked onto Sophia, who stood calmly behind Anna.
"Does your hand hurt?" he asked in a low voice.
Sophia’s eyes flickered in surprise.
Wasn’t Anna his lover?
Shouldn’t he be more concerned about her right now?
Yet she was sure Robert’s question was directed at her.
"It hurts a little," she replied honestly. But the one she slapped definitely hurt more.
"Next time, don’t handle it yourself. Let David take care of it," Robert said, looking into her eyes. "Don’t hurt your hands again."
Sophia: "..."
Was Robert okay?
What was this?
Was he worried about her?
Or was he just using her to make Anna jealous?
"Yes, Master Miller," David’s voice suddenly came from the doorway. "I’ll take care of it. It was my mistake this time, and I’ll accept the punishment."
Sophia turned to see David standing there like a ghost. She hadn’t even noticed when he arrived.
Considering how big of a scene this was, it made sense that he would come quickly to prevent things from escalating further.
But… why was he taking the punishment? Was that really necessary?
"Robert, brother…" Anna’s voice trembled with frustration. She had been completely ignored.
Watching Robert protect Sophia in front of her made her furious.
She lifted her dress again and cried, "I was the one who got hit! Not Sophia! How could you ignore me and defend this woman instead?"
Robert’s eyes narrowed when he heard Anna call Sophia a "woman of low status."
"Get out," he ordered coldly.
His voice sent shivers down Anna’s spine.
Before she could react, David stepped forward and pulled her away.
"Let me go! Robert, how could you do this to me?!" Anna struggled against David’s grip, trying to rush toward Robert. "She’s just a secretary, not your wife! How can you treat me like this?!"
David immediately blocked her from getting any closer.
Robert’s cold voice rang out.
"How do you know she’s not my wife?"
His narrow phoenix eyes locked onto Sophia, a deep and unreadable emotion flickering in them.
