Sophia looked up and saw Ava charging at her with a knife, her face twisted in anger.
Sophia smirked, not showing any fear.
"Kill me? You? That's funny."
Ava lost control.
She saw the mocking expression on Sophia’s face, and the memory of how Sophia had outsmarted her last night filled her with rage.
"Die, you filthy woman!" Ava screamed, stabbing the knife straight at Sophia’s heart.
Sophia smiled slightly, her eyes full of amusement.
As the knife got closer, Sophia quickly raised her right hand and jabbed a silver needle into Ava’s arm. The knife instantly fell to the ground.
"My arm… I can’t move it!" Ava’s face twisted in shock. She glared at Sophia. "What did you do to me?"
"I didn’t do anything." Sophia shrugged.
"Sophia!" Ava's eyes turned red with fury. "You shameless woman, you got me locked up!"
"You got yourself locked up by doing illegal things. That’s not my problem," Sophia said coldly. "But I bet getting out cost you a lot of money."
"You set me up!" Ava’s face darkened, and she lifted her leg, trying to kick Sophia like a madwoman.
Sophia easily dodged, stepping to the side. Her voice was icy. "You tried to frame me first, but now you're caught in your own trap. I saw the news about you yesterday. You looked really pitiful in those pictures."
"Sophia!" Ava screamed in anger. "Mom was right! Blood is thicker than water. You're just a stray dog she picked up from the trash!"
Sophia’s face froze. "What did you just say?"
"I said you're not Mom’s real daughter!" Ava yelled. "You’re just a useless stray she picked up from the trash!"
"Ava!" Sophia’s voice turned sharp. "You tried to ruin me last night, and I only defended myself. Don’t start making up nonsense just because you’re mad!"
"Nonsense?" Ava saw the shock in Sophia’s face and laughed cruelly. "I'm just telling the truth! Mom and Dad talked about it. That’s how I found out!"
Sophia clenched her fists, trying to stay calm.
"I don’t want to listen to your lies," she said, turning to leave.
"Lies? Go check for yourself!" Ava sneered. "Why do you think Mom only spoils the three of us but always beats you?"
"Sophia, you’ve been nothing but a toy for our mother since you were little. When she’s in a good mood, she lets you live. When she’s angry, you become the family’s punching bag!"
"I could kill you right now, and nobody would care. You have no real family, yet you still work hard to make money for us like an idiot. It’s so funny!"
"Enough!" Sophia turned and slapped Ava across the face. "You’re crazy!"
Ava laughed wildly, a red handprint appearing on her cheek.
"I’m not crazy! I know exactly what I’m saying!"
"Sophia, you were picked up from a trash can! If you don’t believe me, go check Mom’s bedroom. In the third cabinet, there’s your birth certificate. Other than your name, the birth date is completely different from the one you use now!"
"If you still don’t believe me, we can get a DNA test. That will prove we’re not related!"
Sophia’s whole body trembled.
"I don’t believe you. You’re lying!"
"Haha..." Ava laughed coldly. "Believe whatever you want. You can check it yourself. I’m ready to take the test anytime!"
"For our family, you were only raised so we could sell you off for money!"
"Sophia, do you get it now? That’s why Mom always favored me and betrayed you! Because in her eyes, you’re just an object, something to be sold when we need to!"
Sophia was frozen in place, speechless.
Ava smiled proudly at her reaction.
"As long as you behave and help me marry into the Garcia family, I’ll keep this secret," Ava continued smugly. "But if you refuse to be sold and let me be ruined by that disgusting old man, Chen Dong, then don’t blame me for telling you this truth."
"Chen… Chen Dong?" Sophia’s heart turned cold. Her body filled with rage.
She suddenly thought of Joseph and that disgusting fat old man.
Chen Dong… wasn't he the man who tricked her? The one Joseph had used to take something precious from her?
Her stomach churned, and she felt sick just thinking about it.
"Yes, Chen Dong," Ava smirked. "I even heard from Master Garcia that you’re no longer pure because you were tricked by that fat pig."
"You, who always acted like a pure little saint, ended up being ruined by a disgusting old man. Isn’t that hilarious?"
"You’re just as bad!" Sophia shouted in anger.
"I’m not the same," Ava sneered. "I stopped caring a long time ago. I’ve been with more men than you’ve had meals. And you, still acting all pure, ha!"
Sophia felt like her world was collapsing.
Ava saw her reaction and felt satisfied.
"You have the house key, right? Nobody’s home today. Go check for yourself. You’re just a stray dog picked up from the trash, humiliated by an old man, hahaha…"
Sophia didn’t even realize when Ava had left.
When she snapped out of it, she rushed to the house in the suburbs like a madwoman.
Just as Ava had said, nobody was home.
She quickly ran to Abigail’s bedroom and found a black shoebox inside the third cabinet. It held the birth certificates of all four siblings.
She pulled out her own birth certificate. There was no father or mother listed—only her name, Sophia. And her birth date was a whole year younger than the one she had been using.
Panicked, she grabbed Ava’s birth certificate. It clearly listed Henry and Abigail as her parents, and the birth date matched Ava’s perfectly.
Among the four siblings, only her birth certificate was different.
"This can’t be…" Sophia’s hands trembled. She whispered in disbelief, "This can’t be real…"
Had she really been living a lie for over twenty years?
She didn’t want to believe Ava’s words. But the birth certificate in her hands…
Was she really just some abandoned child Abigail had picked up from the trash?
Who were her real parents?
Why did they throw her away?
Before she could process everything, Abigail’s angry voice rang out from the doorway.
"Sophia, you’re back?!" Abigail yelled. "You come in and don’t even bother closing the door? If something gets stolen, I’ll make you pay for it!"
Sophia snapped out of her thoughts as Abigail stormed inside.
She clutched the birth certificate, closed the cabinet, and quickly walked downstairs.
Abigail knew the truth.
And Sophia was going to find out.
"What are you doing in my house?!" Abigail’s face twisted in anger when she saw Sophia. "Get out!"
