The store manager looked nervous and didn’t dare to speak.
"Speak!" Harper snapped, threatening him. "Or I'll fire you on the spot!"
The manager, afraid of losing his job, quickly glanced at Joseph and revealed the argument.
"Sophia, you're disgusting." Joseph looked at Sophia with disdain. "A woman like you being a third party only proves that the man who chose you is blind."
"Joseph, when I treat you like a human being, at least try to act like one," Sophia said coldly. "But obviously, you’re not human. You can’t even face failure, and all you can do is insult me. You're really useless."
Joseph knew very well that Sophia wouldn’t mess around with other men because of her relationship with Robert.
Even though he knew Harper and the others were lying, he still deliberately insulted her, even making a pun to suggest that Robert was the blind one. He was truly shameless.
"Sophia!" Joseph was full of anger, and just thinking about Robert made him feel helpless.
At that moment, Harper saw that Joseph didn’t lay a hand on Sophia and only mocked her. She became anxious and said, "Master Garcia, what’s the use of just talking about Sophia? A woman like her, who has no shame, should be taught a lesson and made to kneel before you!"
"Harper, you don’t need to sow discord here," Sophia sneered. "Do you really think I can’t see through your little schemes? Do you think you have the right to seek revenge on me for any past grievances? Ha! You’re not qualified!"
"Master Garcia, I'm not trying to sow discord, nor do I intend to seek revenge on you," Harper said, knowing she couldn’t win against Sophia. She turned to Joseph and said, "Master Garcia, she’s your wife. Are you just going to sit back and watch her cheat on you?"
"Whether or not I’m the other woman, Joseph knows better than you," Sophia looked at Harper with a mocking gaze. "Because I didn’t even attend the wedding last time."
Harper's face twisted in shock. "Sophia, you didn’t go to the wedding?"
"I thought Master Garcia told you," Sophia’s eyes were filled with mockery. "Didn’t he use it as an excuse to invite you to the wedding?"
She looked at Harper and Joseph with amusement. "I guess I overestimated you, Harper. You’re not even worthy of being helped by Joseph."
From the moment she saw Harper, Sophia knew Joseph hadn’t said anything to her. Otherwise, with Harper’s arrogant nature, she would have flaunted it in front of her already.
Harper ignored Sophia’s mockery. What she really cared about was whether Sophia was telling the truth.
She looked at Joseph in disbelief. "Master Garcia, is what Sophia said true? You didn’t marry her?"
Joseph didn’t look at Harper. Instead, he glared angrily at Sophia. "My relationship with Harper is none of your business."
"It’s true that it’s none of my business, but you’re such a scumbag," Sophia said calmly. "You strung Harper along without giving her an official status. You knew the best time to marry her, but did you have another woman who was more suitable to be Mrs. Garcia?"
"Sophia, I'll marry whoever I want. You’re just discarded trash, so shut up!" Joseph was furious.
"I won’t shut up. I just want to laugh at Harper for being discarded by you. You used her and gave her nothing in return." Sophia burst out laughing.
Harper didn’t believe Sophia at first, but even she—foolish as she was—now understood that Sophia wasn’t lying. Joseph really hadn’t married her.
She had wanted to use this opportunity to humiliate Sophia, but once again, Sophia had slapped her in the face. She had lost her best chance to become Mrs. Garcia.
"Master Garcia, how could you do this to me?" She looked at Joseph in despair. "I’ve been with you for so many years. How could you let another woman replace me?"
"Don’t worry, I will marry you," Joseph suddenly said to Sophia, not giving her a chance to cause more trouble. Then he casually told Harper, "I had some difficulties at the time. Don’t believe Sophia."
Harper knew very well that Joseph had promised to marry her countless times, but it was always just empty talk. Her heart ached.
She had been with Joseph for years. Even though he was unfaithful and changed women constantly, she had always been his favorite. But now, his actions had shattered her heart.
Still, she held onto hope. "Master Garcia, will you really marry me?"
"You could stay by his side for free your whole life, and he still wouldn’t marry you," Sophia sneered at Harper. "Joseph knows very well that the wedding was the best opportunity. Even if Mia didn’t accept you, she would have had to acknowledge your marriage in front of the guests. But he didn’t take you with him."
"Master Garcia..." Harper cried, her heart breaking. "I gave you everything, and this is how you treat me?"
"Sophia!" Joseph was infuriated by her words. "You—!"
Sophia lifted her chin and looked at Joseph like a victorious general, exuding confidence.
She watched Harper and Joseph argue with amusement.
Harper wanted to play tricks on her?
Sophia was never afraid of anyone.
Joseph was already furious, and now, with Harper crying beside him while the people around them watched and whispered, his anger grew.
"Harper, stop crying!" he snapped.
Harper trembled at Joseph’s scolding and cried even softer.
"Joseph is surrounded by beautiful women, and you, Harper, are just one of them," Sophia said, looking at Joseph but speaking to Harper. "If you don’t step up, even if I don’t become Mrs. Garcia, someone else will take your place."
Harper panicked and clung to Joseph. "Master Garcia, last time I was beaten, you didn’t protect me. Now you can’t let Sophia humiliate me again! Will you marry me?"
"Sophia, are you looking for trouble?" Joseph clenched his fists as if he was about to hit her.
Sophia saw his reaction and sneered. "You were the ones who started this. Now you’re just trapping yourselves with Harper."
"You—!" Joseph found himself speechless against her.
But he couldn’t let Sophia win. After steadying his emotions, he leaned in and whispered in Harper’s ear.
"I’ll talk to my mother tonight and try to arrange our marriage this month. But stop crying now and go deal with Sophia. If you make me angry, you’ll never marry me in this lifetime."
Harper’s tears dried instantly.
"I’ll be good," she said cautiously.
Sophia didn’t know what Joseph had whispered to Harper that suddenly made her so obedient, but she had no interest in dealing with these two scumbags any longer.
"Is my bill ready yet?" she asked the store manager.
The manager, anxious about the situation getting out of control, just wanted Sophia—who was only here to buy discounted items—to leave as soon as possible.
Upon hearing her, he quickly turned to the salesperson who had assisted Sophia earlier.
The salesperson, who had been enjoying the gossip, snapped out of it and hurriedly left to prepare the bill.
"Miss Martinez, please wait a moment," the manager said before turning to Harper and Joseph respectfully. "Master Garcia, Miss Li, we have new items in the store. Why don’t I show you some of them?"
Trying to please Joseph, Harper angrily pointed at Sophia and said, "I don’t want a new dress! I want the one Sophia is wearing! Take it off her right now!"
