Chapter 2: Impossible Situation

"And I thought that smoke bomb was enough to get rid of them, what a waste?"

In an attempt to throw the two that were chasing them, the boy made his way into the forest close to the marketplace, holding firmly onto the hand of the girl who didn't seem to be able to move much after all the beating she had taken.

She was slowing him down but he was doing his best to keep as much distance away from their chasers as possible.

Still, it didn't take long before his underdeveloped body began to feel the toll of the pressure that it was being put under.

His breathing speed was rapidly increasing while his speed was decreasing.

Despite that, he still wanted to continue forcing his body to deal with the pressure.

He wasn't willing to give up, until she suddenly pulled her arm away from his grip, forcing him to stop.

"What's wrong?" He asked quite abruptly as he turned to her.

"It's pointless." Her voice still sounded quite hoarse as she shook her head.

"What?"

"It's pointless to run; their leader is an assassin of level thirty or higher, and the other one is twenty or higher; it's impossible to escape from them." She disclosed, slowly rubbing her neck. "It's also impossible to face them head-on; you're only at level seven and me level nine."

'How did she know?' He said inwardly as he was quite taken aback.

"You know you can just leave…."

"I got it." The boy interjected.

"Huh?" She responded.

"I know what to do now." He nodded.

Right at that moment, the two chasing them suddenly popped up on one of the trees behind them without making a sound.

The two kids had their backs turned to them but the boy was aware the moment they landed on that tree.

"Quick, take the boy out first." The leader ordered.

Almost immediately, a blade was sent flying straight toward the boy, but just before it could get to him, he spun the dagger in his hand before quickly turning around with it, knocking the blade back.

He quickly shot the two a gaze at that moment before quickly picking the girl up with both hands.

There was a long and thick bush up ahead, and without hesitation, he dashed into it, causing the two to lose sight of him once again.

"That bastard." The leader cursed as he gritted his teeth.

Without wasting much time, the two made their way through the bush, expecting to see the ones they were chasing.

However, they found themselves in an area completely surrounded by bushes, while the middle was filled with green grass which was strangely too well trimmed to be a part of a forest.

The two they were looking for, on the other hand, were nowhere to be found.

"Hmmm."

The leader could feel that something was amiss as he slowly moved forward, the other one behind him.

Just after taking a few steps forward, a portal appeared behind the one at the back.

From the portal slipped out a hand holding a needle.

Being unable to predict something like that, he was unable to react in time as the needle was swiftly stabbed into his neck causing him to instantly pass out.

Hearing the sound of the one behind him passing out, the leader quickly turned around to find him passed out on the floor.

"Huh?"

Right at that moment, a portal opened behind him, a hand holding a needle quickly slipping out.

He went for a quick stab just like the first time. However, just before the needle could hit the target, he sensed it, jumping forward in the nick of time to barely avoid getting hit.

"I had a feeling that wasn't going to work." The boy muttered from where he was hiding.

The portal instantly disappeared at that moment as two more appeared on both sides of the leader, and out of those came flying two smoke bombs.

They hit the ground simultaneously, covering the whole area in green smoke.

"Even if he manages to get out of that, it should be enough to buy us some time." The boy said as he dashed out of the bush with the girl in his arms.

There was a big cave up ahead and that happened to be his target.

"Really?"

He had only taken three steps forward when he heard that menacing voice behind him.

Other than the voice, he could feel an overbearing aura filled with murderous intent, and the pressure from that alone made him feel like crashing down on his knees.

He didn't even get the chance to fight off the pressure as just as he was about to take another step forward, the man grabbed him by his collar, quickly pulling him backwards.

Not wanting to get caught together with the girl, he quickly threw her to the side.

"Run!" He screamed.

"Tiny bastard." The man cursed as he tossed the boy toward the left.

He crashed on the floor once and kept sliding until he crashed into the tree in the way with his back, forcing out a sharp groan from him.

His left arm was bleeding now, and his white tunic seemed to have soaked up most of the blood.

The man turned to the right after staring at him for a while to find the girl struggling to get up.

She was trying to say something, but the more she tried, the more her throat hurt, forcing her to crash down.

The boy, on the other hand, had managed to get up on one knee, his blood now dripping down on the ground from his arm.

"Looks like your saviour needs someone to come save him now." He remarked sarcastically as he kept looking back and forth between the girl still struggling to get up and the boy breathing quite heavily while glaring at him.

In the blink of an eye, he was right in front of the boy, and grabbing him by his throat he slowly raised him against the tree, a satisfactory smile on his face.

"I would love to deal with you first but since you're so desperate to save her, I'll just crush your throat for now so that you can watch me slice her into tiny bits."

Increasing his press on his neck, the boy began to struggle, trying to pull his hand off his neck.

Watching the whole thing, the girl couldn't help but feel frustrated.

Folding both of her hands into fists, she bit into her lower lip with enough strength to make it bleed.

Mustering all her strength, she was able to slowly pull herself up, her glaring gaze fixated on the man the whole time.

Without hesitation, she dashed forward, appearing behind him in an instant.

The man sensed her behind him and quickly turned around at that moment, but the moment he did, she suddenly disappeared, appearing in front of him in an instant.

Opening her mouth wide, she chomped down on his hand forcing him to let go of the boy whom she grabbed and quickly disappeared, appearing just a little toward his right.

Folding his right hand into a fist with a deep frown on his face, the man turned to the two who were now leaning on each other.

"Why is it so hard to kill two children?" He grit his teeth.

"Unless we take care of him, we can't get out of here alive." The girl said, turning to the boy.

He nodded in affirmation, and getting that response, she proceeded to get up on both feet while he was still down on one knee.

Turning to him once more, she nodded before charging straight for the man.

"Come on, this looks like it's your final struggle." The man said.

With a quick burst speed, the girl dashed toward him as the boy, for some reason, proceeded to close his eyes.

She got to him in no time, and folding her right hand, she threw out a punch aiming for his gut.

However, that punch wasn't able to connect as he moved back in time to avoid it, but it was just as they predicted.

The moment he pushed back, a portal appeared in front of him and from it, a dagger was quickly swung at him.

This time, he wasn't able to completely dodge as the dagger ended up slicing into the left side of his face before he could jump back.

The cut wasn't that deep, but for what it was worth, his face was bleeding now.

Stopping for a moment, he reached for his face to wipe the blood.

"They actually made me bleed." He chuckled in an attempt to cover the disbelief in his voice.

Not listening to his nonsense, the girl charged forward, sending another punch but this time, he didn't try to dodge and instead caught her punch.

The boy appeared above him at that moment, aiming for his head with the dagger, and with his left hand, he caught the dagger, allowing it to slice deep into his hand.

"Huh?" The boy gasped.

"I guess I've been lenient enough."

Quickly lifting the girl with one hand, he pulled his right foot back and slammed it down her gut before leaving her to tumble forward.

She had endured to this point and that right there was her limit as she ended up passing out just after hitting the ground.

As for the boy, he slammed him down his gut before tossing him forward.

"Ughhh." He groaned as he crashed to the ground.

However, unlike the girl, he quickly picked himself up, pointing the dagger at him, his eyes filled with desperation.

"I was holding back on using this as I thought it would be too unfair but you've forced my hand." The man said.

Pointing his finger at him, some sort of black liquid began to build up on it, continuously getting condensed.

"What is…."

Before he could finish that sentence, the black liquid was shot out.

He didn't even see the thing move, and the next moment, it pierced right through his left shoulder, forcing itself out from the other.

"Arrggghhhh!" The boy screamed in excruciating pain as he crashed down on his knees, his eyes looking lifeless now.

That was the loudest he had ever screamed in the seven years he had been alive.
