For the next few days, we could see Garrison at sunset.
He stood motionless under the cedar tree like a scarecrow.
Dane took the soda from my hand and scolded,
"That's enough, you've already had your second one today."
"How come you still haven't kicked that habit of guzzling cold drinks from seven years ago?"
I pouted and teased him,
"Because no one was there to stop me for those seven years."
"Whenever I think of you, my heart burns up, so I can only cool down with cold drinks."
Dane ruffled my hair and said,
"Well, I'm back to take care of you now, aren't I?"
"Then you'd better take care of me for life."
"Of course, I'll look after you for a lifetime."
With that, he got up to take my drink inside.
I stood up to follow him in, but he stopped me.
Dane nodded in Garrison's direction and said,
"He's been standing there for days now. Are you really not going to talk to him?"
I said somewhat plaintively,
"You actually want me to go talk to him?"
