Chapter 4

At that time, we were all too weak and small.

We had been through so much together. We understood each other's feelings better than anyone else.

To make him give up completely, I kicked him away harshly.

I told him a woman's youth only lasts a few years, and I didn't want to suffer with him anymore.

In the end, I forced him to sign the divorce papers.

Until now, with Fallon's help,

He has gradually become someone who no longer needs to fear Garrison's existence.

He moved out of the apartment we once rented together, and reached the heights we had once longed for.

As for me, I never thought I would see him again one day.

Even more, I never imagined he would hate me to this extent.

But it doesn't matter anymore. I'm dying anyway.

The effects of the painkillers are wearing off.

The cancer cells are slowly devouring my body again.

I found a nearby hotel to stay in.

I slept in a daze until the next evening, when I was woken up by the phone ringing.

It was Fallon reminding me not to be late, and sending me the hotel address.

I replied that I received it, then swallowed an entire bottle of painkillers.

I changed into the dress Fallon had sent over, and headed to the hotel.

To my surprise, I ran into Soren again at this cocktail party.

...I stepped into the hotel's private room to find Soren with his arm around Felicity, exchanging pleasantries with those around them.

I approached Mr. Knightley, whom Fallon had arranged for me, and he immediately pulled me into his embrace.

His greasy hands roamed over my chest and buttocks.

Two other people at the table were clients I had entertained before.

Seeing this, the men leered and commented on his good taste, adding that Fallon must really value this partnership to have sent me to entertain him.

I sat quietly beside him, skillfully playing along with Mr. Knightley's charade.

From across the table, a pair of eyes kept staring at me.

Despite having done this countless times before, I now trembled with shame and anger.

Accidentally, I spilled wine on Mr. Knightley.

He slapped me to the ground without hesitation.

Then, furiously, he yanked me up, intending to take me to a room, saying he'd teach me a lesson.

As we passed by Soren, he finally couldn't hold back. He stood up and grabbed my arm.

"Melody, how can you be so cheap!"

"Is it that as long as someone's willing to pay, you'll smile and say 'welcome' to any man?"

My chest felt like it was stuffed with cotton.I struggled to suppress the bitterness in my heart and said with a smile, "Yes, if Mr. Langdon is interested, he can also contact me privately."

"After all, you know how good I am in bed."

I looked at the glamorous, loving couple in front of me.

It took almost all my strength to say those words.

Everyone present was stunned by Soren's use of the word "ex-wife."

"Mr. Langdon must be joking. This woman has been passed around by us for years. How could she possibly be your..."

Everyone here was shrewd and cunning.

Thinking of Soren's past, they all fell silent instantly.

They probably never imagined that Soren, a ruthless character who had fought his way up from the bottom, would have such a shameless ex-wife like me.

In the end, it was Mr. Knightley who smoothed things over: "Since she's Mr. Langdon's ex-wife, I won't interfere in your personal matters. However, Miss Jefferson is associated with Mr. Harrington's side. If you're interested in her, what about the contract?"

Soren's icy gaze remained fixed on me."Since she's here to serve, as long as she can provide good service, in exchange, I'll accept all the conditions you proposed earlier."
