Chapter 057: The Gift of Medicine

Chapter 057: The Gift of Medicine

After completing their commission, the Senju clan received yet another request from Fujiwara Tomooki to extend their contract.

The Uchiha clan, who had been observing from the sidelines, could only marvel at how the Senju had managed to turn their mission into a sustainable source of income.

Moreover, the Senju's methods were truly terrifying.

In just a month, they had earned tens of millions of ryo, and now they were set to earn even more. The effectiveness of their treatments had left Fujiwara Tomooki with no choice but to comply.

The Uchiha couldn't replicate the Senju's methods, and neither could any other ninja clan.

The Senju were one of a kind, and rarity always commands a high price. There was simply no way around it.

However, Senju Wakama had said that life was priceless, and Lord Fujiwara Tomooki's health was far more valuable than any material wealth.

After all, using the life force of ninjas to cultivate medicinal herbs for healing was akin to a Wood Release user sacrificing their own life to extend Fujiwara Tomooki's lifespan.

The money paid was essentially a price for life itself, and Lord Fujiwara Tomooki's life was worth far more than this amount, wasn't it?

But Fujiwara Tomooki wasn't a fool. He wasn't about to drain his own coffers. He told Senju Wakama that he would invite other nobles to commission the Senju clan as well.

Fujiwara Tomooki planned to have a group of nobles who wanted to curry favor with him foot the bill. He was certain they would be willing.

This didn't conflict with the Senju's interests, and Wakama was more than grateful, eagerly anticipating the arrival of more wealthy patrons.

Meanwhile, the Uchiha clan could only watch helplessly as their long-time rivals ventured further down a strange and unfamiliar path.

In the end, things turned out like this.

The Uchiha clan, responsible for security, completed their mission, received their payment, and were promptly escorted out by the Fujiwara family.

The Senju clan, on the other hand, stayed behind at the Fujiwara estate due to the contract extension.

Senju Wakama explained that the medicine needed to be customized anew.

Additionally, after a month of treatment, Fujiwara Tomooki's physical condition had changed, necessitating adjustments to the previous treatment plan. A new regimen had to be tailored to his current state.

Furthermore, the current health practitioners needed further training. A month's worth of lessons had been missed, and they required at least ten days of training back at the clan's territory.

To ensure that Fujiwara Tomooki's healing experience wasn't disrupted, the Senju clan would send other prepared practitioners to continue his treatment.

The result?

The Senju stayed.

The Uchiha left.

Uchiha Madara had no intention of clashing with Hashirama's younger brother. After receiving their payment, he restrained his restless clansmen and quickly led them out of the capital of the Land of Fire.

Before they left, Senju Wakama used his "Deft Hands Technique" to quietly slip a bottle of medicine, along with instructions and a letter, into Uchiha Yuki's pocket.

Over the past month, Tsukuyo had been sneaking into Fujiwara Tomooki's room to monitor his treatment progress, documenting his condition in medical records and reporting back to Senju Wakama, keeping him informed.

Taking advantage of this opportunity, Wakama had also told Tsukuyo about Uchiha Yuki's request, though he omitted the fact that Yuki was actually a woman.

Gender was irrelevant, and since Tsukuyo hadn't asked, Wakama saw no need to mention it.

Upon hearing about Yuki's situation, Tsukuyo produced a bottle of "antibiotics."

Wakama was familiar with this medicine. He had recorded it in his notebook it was called "penicillin," also known as "penicillin."

This was a drug Tsukuyo had developed while treating the women of Tanzaku Street. With their consent, she had taken samples from the sick women and, using various strange instruments and with the help of her older brother Tobirama, spent months experimenting before finally isolating and creating this "anti-inflammatory medicine."

The medicine was somewhat effective, but it wasn't a cure-all.

Moreover, not everyone could use it. Due to the crude manufacturing process and the presence of impurities, it had many side effects. Some people could suffer allergic reactions or even die after taking it.

But for the patients on Tanzaku Street, there were no better alternatives.

Tsukuyo believed that the Uchiha and Senju clans would eventually reconcile, and this was a gesture of goodwill toward a portion of the Uchiha.

It was just a bottle of medicine, and giving it away was no great loss.

The side effects were clearly listed in the instructions. Whether or not to use it was up to Uchiha Yuki.

And so, Senju Wakama wrote a letter and gifted the medicine in his own name.

All he could do was wish for Uchiha Yuki's mother to recover quickly. As for the rest, it was up to fate.

---

Uchiha Yuki followed her clan's procession and soon returned to the Uchiha clan's territory.

Her private room was a mere six square meters, reserved solely for her use.

She valued her privacy and rarely interacted with other clan members.

The wounds she had sustained from Senju Wakama's attack still hadn't healed, and she returned to her quarters alone.

While at the Fujiwara estate, Yuki had been terrified that her fellow clansmen would discover her secret. Even after receiving ointment from Madara-sama, she had applied it furtively.

Senju Wakama's attack had been meant to kill her, and the severity of his strike made it a miracle she had survived this long.

After checking the doors and windows, Yuki immersed herself in darkness, still cautious as she examined her injuries.

But as she undressed, she noticed something unfamiliar in her pocket.

It was an exquisite porcelain bottle and a letter.

When had this gotten here?

Yuki was both shocked and suspicious.

Just by looking at the bottle, she knew its origin.

During the month she had spent monitoring the Senju at the noble's estate, she had come to recognize their craftsmanship. This bottle was unmistakably Senju-made.

Yuki hurriedly opened the letter.

Neat handwriting filled the page.

The letter explained that the bottle contained a medicine called "penicillin," developed to treat the illnesses of the women on Tanzaku Street. It had strong side effects, but there were no better alternatives. It could temporarily alleviate her mother's condition.

The letter also made it clear that the medicine had severe side effects. If her body wasn't suited to it, using it could be fatal.

Yuki's hands trembled as she clutched the letter. The image of Senju Wakama's perpetually smiling, handsome face flashed in her mind, and a complex, indescribable feeling washed over her.

That night, when she had left Wakama's territory with Uchiha Madara, the proud Madara-sama hadn't reprimanded her for secretly approaching the Senju. He had only warned her never to let any clan member know she had done such a thing it was far too dangerous.

She didn't know why she had to be enemies with the Senju. She could only follow orders.

She knew that Madara-sama, though cold on the surface, had genuinely been concerned for her. She had obeyed and hadn't spoken a word of it to anyone.

In truth, she wasn't foolish. From the fragments of conversation between Uchiha Madara and Senju Wakama, she had already gleaned some astonishing information.
