Helena was stunned by the sudden shift in Romeo's demeanor.
He had gone from pleading by her door to the playful Romeo she'd grown up with and now he was acting dark and possessive over her.
"I can hear your heart beating faster, Helena," Romeo whispered as their dad stood at the end of the table. "You wouldn't want to draw too much attention to us."
"What us, there is no us," Helena scoffed. "I'm just happy to be home."
"Oh yeah, you were happy," Romeo teased. "But I think you were happier in my bed, in my hotel room, with my lips on yours."
Helena gasped at his words, making Rae turn to her.
"Are you alright?" Rae asked as she reached over and squeezed Helena's hand.
"I've got her," Romeo told his sister with a smile.
"I don't trust you with this," Rae said, glaring at Romeo as if she knew her brother was up to something.
"Dad's about to talk," Helena said as she tried to defuse the tense situation between the pair. "I'll be fine."
Rae glared at Romeo before turning her attention back to Raul who was standing at the head of the table, commanding everyone's attention.
"He's an amazing Alpha," Romeo sighed as she rested his chin on Helena's shoulder and placed his hand on her thigh.
"I'm sure you'll do just as well, if not better," as Helena turned to face him she felt Romeo's lips brush against her cheek, sending sparks through her skin.
When their eyes met Helena couldn't look away.
"Blackmoon Pack!" Raul's voice echoed across the open space, soliciting cheers from their pack members. "It's been years since my family has all been around this table and tonight, Helena is home!"
Again the pack erupts in clapping and cheering, celebrating Helena's return.
"See, I'm not the only one glad that you're back, Helena," Romeo whispered in her ear as his fingers drew circles on her thigh.
"We have much to celebrate in the coming weeks and hopefully in the coming months as well," Raul gave a knowing look to Helena and Romeo as if he knew what was happening under the table, away from everyone's wandering gaze.
"Over the coming days and weeks, we will be welcoming visiting Alphas and their packs as they arrive for both the Alpha Rite and the Blood Moon Ball," the current Alpha announced. "I expect them to be impressed by what they find on their visit."
Helena felt as Romeo's hand climbed higher while everyone was distracted by his father's speech.
'Do you remember what it felt like when my fingers were last in between your legs?' Helena froze as Romeo's familiar voice invaded her thoughts. 'Yes, love, I'm right here with you, no one else can hear us.'
"How?" she asked. Only the pack's Alpha and marked Mates could communicate directly mentally with one another.
If Helena had tried to talk to Rae through mind link for example it would have either been heard by the entire pack or by the Alpha, Raul.
'The closer we get to the Alpha Rite certain abilities start to surface,' Romeo explained. 'Did you enjoy all the dirty things I did as I fucked you last night?'
Helena gasped at his words.
'Imagine if dad heard that,' Romeo teased.
Helena could feel Romeo's warm breath on her neck, any closer and his lips would brush against the curve of her neck. Helena didn't know if she could contain the moan that was threatening to break free.
"And with that, all that's left to say is welcome home, Helena, and good luck, Alpha Romeo," The rest of the pack cheered as Helena felt her face heating up.
"Helena's never liked being the center of attention, no wonder she's blushing so hard," her mother, the Luna, said as everyone turned their attention to her and Romeo.
'If only they knew why,' Hera teased Helena.
"I think Helena is getting overheated due to all the attention," Romeo said with a smirk as his hand trailed the inside of her thighs.
Helena pressed her thighs together, but instead of discouraging Romeo it seemed to do just the opposite.
'Are you as wet for me right now as you were last night?' he purred in her mind.
Helena simply responds to them with a smile before shaking her head. She didn't trust herself to speak. She knew her voice would come out shaky and breathless and there was no telling where Romeo would take the conversation.
'Careful, love,' Romeo said again, invading her thoughts. 'I can smell your arousal and it's fucking divine.'
"Don't you want to say something, Helena?" Romeo asked, cocking his head to the side.
Helena glared at him, he knew that she was in no position to speak.
"Yeah, Helena, give us a speech!" Romeo's Beta, Neil Jacks, shouted from a table nearby.
'Better stand, love,' Romeo teased through their link. ' Before they think something's wrong.'
As he said this Romeo pulled his hand away from her thigh and Helena let out a small wimper at the loss of his touch.
She hated that he had that effect on her and that he knew exactly what he was doing to her.
Slowly Helena stood and smiled at the crowd.
'Have I ever told you how hot you look taking charge,' Romeo said, making Helena blush.
Their packmates whooped and cheered, taking her reddening cheeks as a sign of embarrassment from having to speak to such a big crowd.
"Thank you for welcoming me home, I missed everyone and, most especially, my Mom, Dad, Rae, Rebecca, and Romeo," as she said Romeo's name, their eyes met and their gazes locked.
'Careful, Helena, they might think you missed me too much,' Romeo teased.
Helena quickly looked away and smiled at their packmates.
"It's good to be home," she said carrying a genuine smile on her lips.
'And I hope you come back home for good, Helena,' Romeo said through their link as he stood up and clapped with everyone following suit.
Helena sighed but kept her smile, if only Romeo knew how badly she really wanted to come back home for good.
