"I wonder which Alpha it is," Helena said as they made the trek back to the pack house.
"There were a lot of visiting Alphas last night. I don't doubt that some of them will take advantage of this visit to speak with us as well. I've already had five come by over the past few days," Jeremiah told Helena.
They'd made it back to the pack house and were just about to enter the Alpha's office when Helena's phone began to ring.
She stopped in her tracks, surprised by the fact that her mother was calling.
"It's my mom," Helena said, holding up her phone.
Jeremiah nodded. "I'll keep the visiting Alpha entertained while you take that call."
Helena moved further down the hall so that she wouldn't disturb her Uncle and the visiting Alpha.
"Mom?" Helena asked as soon as she picked up the call.
"Helena, thank the Goddess I managed to catch you," her mother's voice cracked, making Helena worry.
"Mom, what's wrong?" Helena said as she began to panic.
"It's Rebecca." Helena froze at her mother's words.
"What happened?" Helena asked.
Rebecca was the apple of everyone's eye. Everyone in their family and in the entire pack cared for Rebecca, and she was seen as a new hope for the pack, the daughter of their Alpha and his Second Chance Mate.
"She's gone," Alyssa answered frantically.
"What do you mean she's gone?" Helena asked. "She was there when I left, she asked—"
"Helena, are you there?" Alyssa asked. "Helena?"
Helena didn't answer. What if Rebecca went missing because of her?
"Mom, Rebecca was there when I said I was going to leave," Helena said as the blood drained from her face. "What if—"
"No, she wouldn't," Alyssa told her daughter.
"Mom, she's been crying to me about the fact that I keep leaving her behind. What if this time she decided to follow?" Helena began making her way to where she knew her Uncle's Gamma would be waiting.
"Helena, Rebecca can't possibly have gone all the way to Stonehill," Alyssa told her daughter.
"Stonehill is the closest pack," Helena reminded her mom.
She spotted her Uncle's Gamma standing in the hall, speaking with the head warrior, just the people she needed to see.
"It's still far. She'd have to go through the city," Alyssa told her daughter.
"Not if she runs through the woods. We taught her that path," Helena reminded her mom.
It was one of the things she'd taught Rebecca when she came to Black Moon the last time. She was worried that in case of an attack, Rebecca wouldn't know where to go, so she taught her how to get to Stonehill on foot through the woods.
"I need a favor," Helena told her Uncle's Gamma.
"What is it, Alpha?" he asked.
"If my sister Rebecca shows up at the border, inform me," Helena instructed.
The Gamma's lips parted as if he was about to say something, but Alyssa's voice over the phone overpowered everything around Helena.
"You're dad has already sent out a search party," Alyssa informed Helena.
"I should go back," she told her mom as she bit her lower lip.
"No, we can manage here, and if your suspicion is correct, you should be there to make sure she's safe," Alyssa told her daughter.
'Ryder can find her,' Hera told Helena.
"Where's Romeo?" Helena asked her mom.
"Visiting another pack, he left early this morning," Alyssa explained.
"And Rae? Rae is an excellent tracker," Helena said.
"She's already out with Raul," Alyssa said, her tone taking a comforting turn.
Helena paced as she though of what else they could do.
"Have you tried reaching out to Romeo?" she asked again.
"He hasn't been answering his phone," Alyssa sighed.
'He wouldn't let Rebecca out alone for this long,' Hera reminded Helena. 'Something must have happened.'
'Or maybe he's having a serious discussion with another Alpha,' Helena told her wolf. 'Can we reach out to him through the Alpha link?'
'We can try,' Helena said.
"Mom, I'm gonna try something, and I hope to the Goddess that this works," Helena told Alyssa as she ran her fingers through her hair.
Alyssa said something in reply, but Helena wasn't listening.
She focused all of her attention on trying to speak with Romeo.
'Romeo? Ryder? Where are you? Our pack needs you,' Helena thought through the bond.
At first, she was greeted with silence, which made her anxious.
"Helena, are you there?" Helena heard Alyssa's voice call out.
"A moment, Mom," she groaned as she returned her focus to the link.
'Rome?' Helena tried again.
'Our pack, I like how that sounds,' came Romeo's response, making Helena smile.
'Where are you?' she asked.
'Go to your Uncle, I have a surprise,' Romeo teased.
'Romeo this isn't the time for this, Rae—'
'Just go,' Romeo said in a stern tone before cutting off the link.
Grumbling, Helena stomped off to her Uncle's office while still on call with her mother.
"Mom, I'll call you as soon as I hear something," Helena promised her mother as she opened the door.
"Thank you, dear," Alyssa said.
"Helena!" a familiar voice called out as Helena felt something hit her stomach.
She looked down and found Rebecca hugging her. Beside her Uncle was Romeo, smiling smugly.
"Mom, call off the search," Helena said, gritting her teeth. "I found Rebecca."
