The two lively characters soon calmed down, quietly continuing their search for Pokémon.
Before long, they arrived at a lake.
The lake appeared to cover about two acres. Its surface was calm and ripple-free, and the water was so clear that their reflections could be seen perfectly on the surface. The surrounding trees stood neatly like loyal guardians, adding a sacred aura to the lake.
Tenten, noticing the lake, turned back to glance at Might Guy and the others. "Guy-sensei, why don't we take a break here?"
Even as a ninja, she was starting to feel a bit fatigued after searching for so long.
Might Guy nodded. "Alright, let's rest here before we continue."
The group walked over to the lake, took a few sips of the crystal-clear water, and leaned against the nearby trees to rest, enjoying the gentle caress of the cool breeze.
Gurgle, gurgle~
Suddenly, there was a disturbance on the lake's surface. The group stood up and turned their gazes toward it.
The once calm lake began to ripple, like a shattered mirror. Bubbles rose from the depths, making an alert, bubbling sound.
Moments later, a sky-blue sphere slowly emerged from the water's surface.
Might Guy and the others became more vigilant as they observed the object. The shape gradually became clearer as it surfaced.
"Is that... another Pokémon?" Tenten raised an eyebrow in curiosity, her gaze focused on the emerging figure.
No one responded to her question; all eyes were locked on the floating creature.
[Tentacool]
Classification: Jellyfish Pokémon
…
"It's really a Pokémon?" Tenten scanned it with her Pokédex, her eyes filled with surprise.
The Geodude from earlier had already shocked her. Now, encountering a jellyfish Pokémon was completely beyond her expectations.
"Hahaha, not bad! Looks like we're pretty lucky. Does anyone want to catch it?" Might Guy laughed heartily, turning to Tenten and Neji.
"Guy-sensei, I'll do it this time," Tenten volunteered.
"You want to catch it, Tenten? Alright, go ahead."
Without further ado, Tenten walked toward the lake.
Woo~
Just as Tenten got closer, the Tentacool fired a poisonous stinger. Whoosh! The stinger landed right in front of Tenten.
"Watch out!" Might Guy quickly moved to her side, his eyes alert.
His brows furrowed. "It seems not all Pokémon are friendly."
Earlier, after their encounter with the Geodude, he had lowered his guard, thinking that Pokémon were generally easy to tame.
Tenten shook her head from behind him. "It's alright, Guy-sensei. That attack wasn't aimed at me. It seems like it just wants to keep us from getting too close."
Might Guy observed the situation carefully and relaxed after confirming her assessment.
He glanced back at Tenten. "If it doesn't want to be caught, we should respect its wishes and look elsewhere."
But Tenten shook her head. "Guy-sensei, I'd like to give it a try."
After thinking for a moment, Might Guy nodded. "Alright, but be careful."
Tenten nodded and took another step closer. "Tentacool, can you come with me and be my partner?"
The Tentacool didn't hesitate to shake its head.
Tenten wasn't discouraged. She pulled out an ability cube she had purchased earlier, unwrapped it, and took out one piece.
The Tentacool's eyes gleamed at the sight, and it couldn't help but swallow a gulp of water.
Noticing this, Tenten smiled. "Here, Tentacool. Let's be friends—this is for you."
Tentacool hesitated for a moment before shaking its head again, its body slowly sinking back into the water.
Seeing this, Tenten grew anxious. Without thinking, she threw a Poké Ball.
Her aim was flawless, thanks to her kunai-throwing skills. The Poké Ball struck Tentacool directly and absorbed it with a whoosh.
The group wasn't too surprised. After all, they had already witnessed Lee using a Poké Ball earlier. Geodude was still inside its Poké Ball, so the initial shock had worn off.
Woo~
Tentacool broke free from the Poké Ball after a short struggle, its eyes filled with anger. If not for the earlier warning from Ryo to avoid hurting humans, it would have already retaliated.
Might Guy, standing nearby, had been ready to fight at any moment but now completely relaxed.
"Tentacool, I really want you to be my partner," Tenten said, ignoring its angry expression.
Woo~
Tentacool shook its head again and began sinking into the water once more.
In the next second, another Poké Ball flew through the air, striking Tentacool right on the head.
Might Guy was stunned at the sight.
"What the heck is going on? Why is it turning out like this?"
Behind her, Lee and Neji looked bewildered, struggling to keep up with what was happening.
Tentacool had already refused multiple times—why not just give up?
Woo~
Once again, Tentacool broke free from the Poké Ball, its expression turning fierce. Its glare at Tenten clearly conveyed its anger, as though it wanted to devour her.
Is this girl out of her mind? Tentacool thought. How many times do I have to say no?!
"Tentacool, won't you please become my partner?"
Tenten ignored its frustrated expression and continued to speak calmly with a gentle smile.
Woo~ Woo~!
Tentacool let out louder cries and started sinking back into the water as quickly as it could.
But just as it was about to dive deeper, yet another Poké Ball struck it, absorbing Tentacool back inside.
Might Guy furrowed his brows, watching the scene unfold with confusion. "Tenten… Isn't this a bit much?"
Tenten shook her head confidently. "Not at all. The shopkeeper didn't say we couldn't keep using Poké Balls repeatedly."
Might Guy was left speechless for a moment, realizing how strangely reasonable her logic was.
If Ryo were here right now, he'd be applauding her enthusiasm and adaptability. It's always great to see someone with such strong comprehension skills, he thought.
Just then, Lee stepped forward. "But… isn't this a bit wasteful?"
He couldn't help but compare it to his own experience. He had only used one Poké Ball to catch Geodude, but Tenten was already on her third attempt without any sign of success.
Before anyone could respond, Tentacool broke free once again—only for Tenten to swiftly throw yet another Poké Ball.
Turning back toward Lee with a nonchalant expression, she asked, "Sorry, Lee, what were you saying?"
"Uh… nothing. Nothing at all."
Lee's lips twitched as he took a step back, feeling utterly defeated. He had finally understood—wealthy people truly thought differently.
As someone who's always been broke, I really shouldn't be asking these kinds of questions.
