Chapter 31: Generous Kakashi

"Finally! I caught it!"

After using her sixth Poké Ball, Tenten held it up excitedly.

The others stood in stunned silence, their mouths twitching in disbelief.

Seriously? This counts as catching it? Even Tentacool had probably just given up struggling. After all, no matter how many times it escaped, she just kept throwing more Poké Balls. It seemed like an endless cycle.

Forget Pokémon—anyone would eventually give up and surrender if subjected to that kind of persistence.

"Ahem—"

Might Guy cleared his throat. "Alright then, let's keep moving and continue our search."

Lee and Neji nodded immediately. "Yes, good idea!"

The three turned and started walking, ready to search for more Pokémon.

"Hey! Wait for me! Why are you in such a rush? I haven't even bonded with Tentacool yet!"

Hearing that, the three ahead of her twitched at the corners of their mouths.

Bond? Seriously? Tentacool probably hates you by now. If it doesn't punch you the moment it's released, you should count yourself lucky—and you still want to bond?

Meanwhile, in the wooden house on the mountain, Ryo was meditating when he suddenly sensed something. He slowly opened his eyes.

"Ryo, we're here!"

Naruto's voice rang out from outside, followed by hurried footsteps as Team Kakashi entered the wooden house.

Once inside, they greeted him one by one.

"Well, well, what a rare visit. You must have a reason for coming; otherwise, you wouldn't be here."

Kakashi scratched his head awkwardly. "Boss, we're here to buy some energy cubes."

Naruto chimed in, "Yeah, Ryo! We've taken on a C-rank mission that requires us to leave the village."

"Oh?"

Hearing that, Ryo's eyes lit up. Could it be the mission involving Zabuza?

After a moment's thought, he glanced at them. "Sure. How many do you want to buy this time?"

Kakashi replied, "Boss, our Pokémon have all reached level ten. Can they start using intermediate energy cubes now?"

He had been experimenting lately, testing whether Ryo's claims about the benefits of energy cubes were true.

After thorough testing, Kakashi had to admit that the energy cubes indeed enhanced his Pokémon's training progress.

Even the low-level energy cubes provided a 5% increase in training efficiency. While that might seem small, it could add up to something significant over time.

Ryo nodded. "Yes, once your Pokémon reach level ten, they can start absorbing intermediate energy cubes."

"Great! Boss, I'll take two bags of intermediate energy cubes, then."

"Sure thing. Intermediate energy cubes cost 5,000 ryō per bag. Two bags will be 10,000 ryō."

Ryo smiled as he stretched out his hand.

Kakashi's face twitched slightly, but he pulled out the money and handed it over.

Ryo happily accepted it and handed Kakashi two bags of intermediate energy cubes.

"What about you guys? Do you need low-level or intermediate ones?"

After finishing the deal with Kakashi, Ryo turned to Naruto and the others.

Without saying a word, Sasuke pulled out 10,000 ryō and handed it to Ryo.

Satisfied with Sasuke's straightforward approach, Ryo handed him two bags of intermediate energy cubes.

Ah, I like this guy—no nonsense, just pays up.

Sakura followed suit, purchasing two bags of intermediate energy cubes as well, giving Ryo yet another 10,000 ryō.

Naruto glanced at his teammates, hesitated for a moment, then gritted his teeth. "Ryo, give me one bag of intermediate energy cubes too."

He pulled out 5,000 ryō, his heart aching as he handed it over.

This could have bought me a hundred bowls of Ichiraku ramen! I could have eaten ramen every day for three months!

Ryo, however, showed no sympathy. He took the money without hesitation and handed the energy cubes to Naruto.

After receiving the cubes, Naruto looked like he was about to cry.

Seeing that none of them planned to leave, Ryo raised an eyebrow. "So… is there something else you need?"

Kakashi's eyes turned serious, ignoring Ryo's sudden change of tone. "Boss, I heard from Kurenai about something called evolution. Can you tell us more about it?"

"Sure, ask away."

Ryo nodded, not bothering to refuse.

"What's the deal with evolution levels? Can you explain it to us?"

Naruto and the others listened attentively, curious to learn more.

"It depends on the Pokémon. Some can evolve at just over level ten, while others need to reach level thirty or beyond."

Kakashi nodded thoughtfully. "What about my Pikachu?"

Ryo shook his head. "Pikachu doesn't evolve through leveling up. You need a specific item for that. Once you have the item, it can evolve anytime."

"Hmm?"

Kakashi frowned slightly. "An item? Do you have one, Boss?"

"I do, but these items are expensive. Even for you, it wouldn't be a small expense."

Ryo smirked knowingly. Kakashi might be a homebody who loved reading his Icha Icha novels, but he wasn't exactly rolling in cash.

Even though Ryo mentioned that it was expensive, a Thunder Stone wasn't something easily affordable.

In the system's store, a Thunder Stone cost tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of points. If Ryo were to sell it himself, he figured it would be at least one to two million ryō.

Honestly, even at one million, he felt like he'd still be losing money.

Kakashi was silent for a moment after hearing that. "Boss, how much exactly?"

Ryo raised a finger. "Two million."

"What?! Two million?!"

Before Kakashi could respond, Naruto's eyes widened in disbelief.

"Ryo, does this mean Bulbasaur's evolution will cost that much too?" Naruto asked anxiously, already contemplating whether to just give up on Bulbasaur.

Buying energy cubes was already painful enough, and now an evolution item? Forget it.

Sakura's mouth dropped open in shock, and even Sasuke, despite being a wealthy heir, had a change in expression.

But to everyone's surprise, Kakashi nodded. "Alright, I'll take it, Boss."

"Huh?"

Both Naruto and the others, including Ryo, were stunned.

Is he seriously going to buy it?

Is this the difference between an elite jonin and an ordinary person? Is everyone at this level so extravagant?

Kakashi, however, had his reasons.

Two million was a lot—even for him, it meant emptying his savings. But after thinking about it, he realized it was a worthwhile investment.

An A-rank mission usually brought in around three to four hundred thousand ryō as a reward.

If he completed a few more missions, he could make the money back.

Besides, if his Pokémon evolved and got stronger, it would make completing future missions much easier.

In that sense, it was definitely worth the price.
