The Hunt Heats Up

Present Day – Closing In

The city never slept, and neither did Elijah Sinclair when he was on the hunt.

Nathan had pulled every string, shaken down every informant, and combed through hours of surveillance footage. Finally, they had a lead—a black SUV matching the one in the dockyard footage had been spotted entering an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of the city.

Dante loaded his gun, his expression unreadable. "This could be a trap."

Elijah smirked. "It always is."

Nathan adjusted his gloves, his eyes colder than usual. "Doesn't matter. We're going in."

The warehouse was quiet—too quiet. The three of them moved in sync, slipping through the shadows, weapons drawn.

Inside, the air smelled of dust and gasoline. Stacked crates lined the walls, and flickering lights cast eerie shadows across the floor.

Then—

A groan.

Elijah stiffened. He signaled to the others and followed the sound, his heart pounding.

Luca was slumped against a chair, his hands tied, blood smeared across his temple. His shirt was torn, revealing bruises forming on his ribs. But despite the state he was in, his smirk was still intact.

"Took you assholes long enough," he rasped.

Nathan's breath hitched, but he masked it quickly. "You look like shit."

Luca grinned, coughing. "You should see the other guys."

Elijah's sharp gaze swept the room. "Where's Lorenzo?"

Luca's smile faded. "Gone. He wanted me alive, but I don't think that's gonna last much longer."

Dante cut Luca free, supporting his weight as he staggered to his feet. "Then let's get the hell out of here before he comes back."

But just as they turned toward the exit—

Gunfire erupted.

Years Ago – Luca & Nathan's Past

Nathan wasn't supposed to be here.

He wasn't supposed to be in Luca Moretti's car, parked in some secluded alleyway with nothing but tension thick between them.

And yet, here they were.

Luca tapped his fingers against the steering wheel, glancing at Nathan with a knowing smirk. "You're thinking too hard."

Nathan exhaled. "I'm thinking about how stupid this is."

Luca tilted his head. "Then leave."

Nathan didn't move.

Luca chuckled. "That's what I thought."

Nathan gritted his teeth. "You're playing a dangerous game."

Luca leaned in, his lips inches away from Nathan's. "And you love it."

Nathan hated that Luca was right.

Because no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't stay away.

And that was going to cost them both.
