Alex followed Evelyn through the city streets, keeping a cautious distance. He still didn't trust her, but she clearly knew more than he did. And if she was right—if Pyre and his people were only the beginning—then he needed answers.
Evelyn led him to an abandoned warehouse on the edge of town. The place looked like it hadn't been used in years, but the moment they stepped inside, Alex realized he was wrong.
The inside was alive.
Computer screens flickered, showing security feeds and data streams. A metal workbench was covered in tools and strange devices. A giant map of the city was pinned to the wall, covered in red markings and notes.
This was not some random hideout.
Evelyn turned to him. "Welcome to the war."
Alex frowned. "What war?"
She sighed, leaning against the desk. "The one you just got dragged into."
She grabbed a remote and pressed a button. The screens shifted—showing dozens of people across the city. Some were fighting, some were running, and some… weren't even human.
Alex's stomach twisted. "Who are they?"
Evelyn crossed her arms. "People like you. People like me. Enhanced."
Alex blinked. "Wait—you have powers too?"
Evelyn smirked. She lifted a hand, and suddenly—the metal disk in her other hand floated into the air. It spun effortlessly before landing perfectly back in her palm.
"Telekinesis," she said. "Not as flashy as time powers, but useful."
Alex exhaled. "Okay… So, who's after us?"
Evelyn's expression darkened. She tapped another button, and an image filled the main screen.
A man in a black mask, standing in front of a massive organization.
"They call him Zero. And he's hunting us all."
A chill ran down Alex's spine. "Why?"
Evelyn looked him in the eyes. "Because we're the only ones who can stop him."
