The warehouse was dimly lit, the only sound being the steady beeping of Evelyn's training timer.
Alex panted, sweat dripping down his forehead as he dodged another flying metal plate.
"Too slow," Evelyn called out, sending two more objects hurling his way with her telekinesis.
Alex stopped time for half a second, sidestepped, and let them crash into the wall behind him.
Time resumed.
Evelyn raised an eyebrow. "Better."
Alex groaned. "Can we take a break before I collapse? I'm pretty sure my legs hate me now."
Evelyn smirked. "Good. That means it's working."
Alex slumped against a crate. "You're the worst."
Before Evelyn could throw another insult at him, the warehouse lights flickered.
The air suddenly felt… wrong.
Alex and Evelyn froze.
Something—or someone—was here.
Evelyn whispered, "Did you feel that?"
Alex nodded. "Yeah. And I don't like it."
A low chuckle echoed through the warehouse.
Then—darkness.
Every single light snapped off at once.
Alex's heart pounded. "Okay, that's definitely not normal."
A voice, smooth and cold as ice, drifted through the shadows.
"You've been causing quite a stir, Timelock."
Alex's blood ran cold.
Then, out of the darkness, a figure appeared—cloaked, mask covering their face, and surrounded by swirling black mist.
Evelyn tensed. "Specter."
The masked figure tilted their head. "Ah, so you've heard of me."
Alex gulped. "Can't say I'm a fan."
Specter let out a quiet laugh. "Good. That makes this easier."
Then—they vanished.
Alex's instincts screamed at him—MOVE!
He barely dodged as a shadowy blade slashed through the air where he had just been standing.
"Oh, come on! Teleporting bad guys?! That's cheating!"
Specter reappeared behind him, whispering in his ear.
"So is stopping time."
Alex spun around—but Specter was already gone.
Evelyn launched a blast of telekinetic energy into the darkness, but it passed right through Specter as if they were made of smoke.
Alex gritted his teeth. "Okay. That's creepy."
Specter's voice surrounded them.
"This is only the beginning."
Then—just as suddenly as they came—Specter vanished into the night.
The lights flickered back on.
Evelyn cursed under her breath. "That… was bad."
Alex exhaled. "Yeah. I think we just met our next big problem."
