Chasing Shadows

The warehouse was silent, but Alex's mind was racing.

Specter had vanished, but the chill of their presence still lingered.

Evelyn exhaled. "Well… that sucked."

Alex rubbed his temples. "Yeah, no kidding. First Brutus, now this? Who's next, an evil time traveler?"

Evelyn crossed her arms. "I hate to say it, but we're not ready for this."

Alex groaned. "You always say that."

"Yeah, because it's always true."

She pointed at the spot where Specter had been standing. "That wasn't just some random thug. Specter is an assassin. The kind that doesn't miss."

Alex sighed. "Great. And they're after me."

Evelyn smirked. "Technically, us."

"…Not helping."

The Investigation Begins

The next day, Alex and Evelyn hit the streets, looking for leads.

Their first stop: an underground tech dealer who specialized in stolen security footage.

The guy, a skinny dude with thick glasses named Rigs, leaned back in his chair. "Lemme get this straight. You wanna know about Specter?"

Alex nodded. "Anything you've got."

Rigs whistled. "Man, you two must have a death wish."

Evelyn smirked. "We get that a lot."

Rigs sighed and pulled up footage from a bank heist two weeks ago.

"Specter doesn't leave much behind, but check this out."

On screen, a vault door melted into black mist, like it had been erased from reality. Moments later, Specter phased through the walls and took down an entire security team in seconds—moving like a ghost.

Alex shuddered. "Okay, that's… horrifying."

Rigs nodded. "Yeah. And get this—Specter wasn't stealing money."

Evelyn raised an eyebrow. "Then what were they after?"

Rigs zoomed in.

Inside the vault, Specter picked up a small metallic cube, examined it for a second, then vanished.

Alex leaned forward. "What is that?"

Rigs shrugged. "No idea. But whatever it was, someone wanted it bad enough to send Specter after it."

Evelyn crossed her arms. "Looks like we just found our next clue."

Alex sighed. "Great. More mysteries."

Evelyn smirked. "What, you were hoping for a relaxing weekend?"

Alex groaned. "Yes. Just once."

Meanwhile…

In a hidden location, Specter stood in front of a screen, replaying footage of Alex stopping time.

A voice crackled over a speaker.

"You saw it yourself. The boy can manipulate time."

Specter nodded. "Confirmed."

The voice continued. "Then proceed with Phase Two. We need him alive."

Specter's fingers curled into a fist.

"…Understood."
