Alex stared.
The man in the golden cloak—his older self—stood before him.
The same face. The same eyes. But stronger. Wiser. And… different.
Jax pointed. "NOPE. NOPE. TIME PARADOX. TOO CONFUSING. I'M OUT."
Evelyn elbowed him. "Shut up, I wanna hear this."
Alex finally found his voice. "Who—what—how?"
Chronos smirked. "You already know what I am. I'm you. Just… a little further down the timeline."
Alex shook his head. "That's impossible."
Chronos shrugged. "Says the guy who stops time."
Jax threw up his hands. "HE MAKES A FAIR POINT."
Lessons from the Future
Lillian frowned. "If you're Alex from the future, why are you here?"
Chronos's smirk faded.
"To stop Subject Zero."
Alex tensed. "Why? What does he want?"
Chronos sighed. "You don't get it yet. Subject Zero isn't just a threat."
His golden cloak shifted in the wind.
"He's a mistake. Our mistake."
Alex's breath caught. "Wait. Are you saying—"
Chronos nodded.
"Yes. We created him."
The Truth About Subject Zero
The words hit like a truck.
Alex shook his head. "No. That doesn't make sense."
Chronos crossed his arms. "It does if you understand the future."
He paced, glancing at the burning wreckage behind them.
"In my time, we thought we could use time itself as a weapon. We tried to build the ultimate warrior—someone who could control all of time's abilities. But we underestimated him."
Alex clenched his fists. "And now he wants to kill me."
Chronos met his gaze.
"He doesn't want to kill you, Alex."
Alex hesitated. "Then what does he want?"
Chronos's eyes darkened.
"He wants to be you."
Silence.
Jax blinked. "OKAY, NEW FEAR UNLOCKED."
Evelyn muttered, "That's actually worse than I expected."
The War for Time
Lillian stepped forward. "So if we created him, how do we stop him?"
Chronos sighed. "The same way I did in my timeline."
He turned to Alex.
"You have to become stronger. Faster. Smarter."
Alex squared his shoulders. "Then teach me."
Chronos smiled. "That's the plan."
He flicked his wrist—
A portal opened, glowing golden.
"Come with me."
Alex hesitated. Then—he stepped forward.
Jax crossed his arms. "Cool. Time travel boot camp. This definitely won't break my brain."
Chronos chuckled. "Oh, trust me."
He turned to Alex.
"This is just the beginning."
Then, they vanished into the portal.
