The golden portal swirled, pulling Alex and Chronos inside.
The world around them shifted.
Time itself bent and twisted into an endless void—stars, shattered clock faces, and glowing golden streams of energy surrounded them.
Alex stumbled. "Whoa. Where are we?"
Chronos smirked. "Welcome to the Time Void. A place outside of time itself."
Jax poked his head through the portal. "Uhhh, should I be worried that this place looks like a cosmic screensaver?"
Chronos chuckled. "Only if you mess up."
Jax yelped and jumped back through.
Alex looked around. "So… what's the plan?"
Chronos folded his arms.
"I'm going to teach you how to do more than just freeze time."
He pointed at Alex's hands.
"You've barely scratched the surface of your abilities. If you want to stop Subject Zero… you need to evolve."
Alex nodded. "Alright. Let's do this."
Mastering Time Itself
Chronos snapped his fingers.
A wave of energy rippled outward.
The Time Void shifted.
Suddenly, Alex was standing in a city—New York—but time was frozen.
People stood still mid-stride. Cars hovered in place. Birds were frozen in the air.
Alex blinked. "Wait… is this real?"
Chronos smirked. "A training simulation. Now, try this—"
He lifted his hand—time reversed.
The people moved backward, as if reality itself was a rewinding tape.
Chronos turned to Alex.
"Your first lesson—reversing time for specific objects."
Alex frowned. "Wait. I can control what rewinds?"
Chronos nodded. "Not everything at once—just what you focus on."
Alex focused.
He stared at a coffee cup on a table.
He reached out—willed it to move back in time.
The cup lifted into the air and refilled itself.
Alex's eyes widened. "Whoa."
Chronos grinned. "Not bad, kid."
Beyond the Basics
Hours passed—maybe days. Time didn't work normally in the void.
Alex trained harder than ever.
He learned to slow time around individual objects. He learned to speed up time for himself, moving even faster than before. He learned how to see seconds into the future—just enough to dodge attacks before they happened.
At one point, Chronos threw a dagger at him.
Alex saw it coming a fraction of a second before it left Chronos's hand.
He moved before the attack even began.
Chronos smirked. "Now you're getting it."
Alex wiped sweat from his forehead. "How far can I take this?"
Chronos's expression darkened.
"There's one last thing I need to teach you."
His hand glowed gold.
"The power to manipulate your own time."
Alex frowned. "I thought that's what I was doing?"
Chronos shook his head. "No. Right now, you're controlling time around you. But if you learn this…"
He held out his hand—
And aged forward ten years in an instant.
Alex's eyes widened.
Chronos grew younger again.
"This… is Temporal Shift."
Alex swallowed. "You're telling me I can—"
Chronos nodded.
"You can speed up your own growth. Become stronger—instantly."
Alex hesitated. "That sounds… dangerous."
Chronos's face darkened. "It is."
He clenched his fist. "If you use it too much, you might skip too far. Or worse—get stuck in the wrong time."
Alex exhaled. "No pressure, huh?"
Chronos smirked. "Welcome to being me."
Alex took a deep breath.
Then—he lifted his hand.
Time energy flickered around him.
He was ready to try.
