Chapter 4: Consume

Carter stepped on the maggot with his foot, it splattered on the ground as he also didn't show mercy to the other half.

These pesky beasts weren't easily to kill and had more likely great survival skills. Who knows, just cutting them up wouldn't be enough to kill them.

He had to make sure.

After a few seconds, Carter witnessed another familiar scene.

A card formed atop the blood of the maggot.

This again.

He furrowed his brows, it seemed like killing beasts one could gain these 'cards'.

But what exactly does this cards do?

He questioned.

The card flew towards his finger, looking at it closer, it was another 2 of clubs.

___

Skill: Enchanced stamina

Rank: 2 of clubs

Description: Enchances ones stamina temporarily

___

At the center of the card, Carter saw it's specifications.

Carter doubted the card on his hand, if it really does do what it says, then it was some sort of power.

This was like straight out from a fantasy novel.

The fck?!

Carter scratched his head.

___

Consume or equip

___

Consume or equip?

Carter had equipped the first two of clubs card he gained earlier, it just branded itself to his right fist.

If his memory served him right, it was something like Enchanced fist. Then it probably increases to force of his punch right?

Carter threw a punch but it didn't feel any different from usual though, where was the Enchanced force?

Do I have to activate it or something then?

Carter wondered, it passed by his line of thought and tried to act it out but stopped, he thought that if it really does enchance his fists force, then it would be better to use it later when he really was in danger.

But then again, the questions still lies.

What will happen if he decides to consume it rather than equip the card.

Right now, Carter would find the answer.

He picked the first option.

Consume.

The card disappeared as it turned to little specks of light that entered his body, Carter got scared for a second but it was soon washed away as he felt relieved as strength coursed through his vein.

After it was over, Carter could feel that his body had rejuvenated? His feelings of exhaustion and even his fear got washed away.

It was a change that wasn't too much but he could definitely feel it.

Whaa-

He was in a state of disbelief, this meant that those cards were absolutely precious if it could give one this much change, give so much strength.

If he consumed more of those, then he could probably gain superhuman strength.

Then again, for him to gain those cards, he had to kill beasts that could very well kill him as well.

Everything was too hard to believe, it defied the laws set in the standards of earth.

But then again, an Apocalypse was happening, people were dying, buildings were collapsing, animals mutated to become beasts, would it be so weird for people to have gain superpowers?

Fck, enough thinking.

Carter had to move, he couldn't afford to be thinking about all this here in the open, he first had to leave the building, find a much more secure and safe space, then think about all that he could.

Carter smiled, his heart felt exhilarated for some reason.

He started walking towards where the signs were leading him, but he was more careful than ever this time, he didn't know if another maggot would jump on him again or something worse than a maggot.

_____

Haahh...

Why is this complex so big, he had been walking for a while now, it was really catching up to him, along the way he was able to find a map of the complex stuck to the wall, he didn't hesitate to take it out, it would greatly help him in leaving this building after all.

However, despite those, Carter was somewhat happy that he didn't encounter a much more dangerous beasts than those maggots, speaking of maggots, he had killed three more maggots as he walked towards the elevator.

Just like the first one, it was two of clubs.

The skills were, Enchanced speed, Enchanced fist, and Enchanced grip — of which Carter consumed two, the Enchanced fist, he already had one like it equipped anyway so he choose to just consume it, he also consumed the Enchanced grip one since it really didn't seem to serve him purpose at the moment.

By consuming those two two of clubs, his body was once again strengthened.

And damn did it feel good. He felt like his body had gone through a transformation.

On the other hand, the Enchanced speed one, he equipped, the card — two of clubs then branded itself to his feet.

Carter was feeling pretty confident right now, but he really couldn't let his guard down that easily, he had to be cautious. He was strong only facing those maggots, but if he encountered more stronger beasts, such as the one that massacred those people and made a mess of their bodies, he really wasn't confident in killing it with just this measly knife.

But, with the Enchanced speed club card, he had some assurance that he would be able to run away safely.

He looked at the map and saw that he was close to the elevator. He had not encountered any survivor despite the large complex, some were probably being quiet and was hiding in their rooms or majority had already died.

Carter really couldn't give a shit.

Right now all he had on his mind was leaving this building alive, he realized in this short span of time that in order for him to survive, he had to gamble his life.

He had to gain more of those cards and grow stronger and survive.

Just then as he rejoiced that he was now near the elevator, a door to an apartment opened as a screaming person tried to back off but got pounced on by a circular hairy beast with the size of a three basketballs combined.

The person fell on the floor with the beast on top of him.

"Helppp!!" The person screamed as the beast scratched his face.

Carter who was shook at the sudden situation reacted quick and kicked the furball of a beast. It flew a few meters away freeing the poor man that now had an ugly scar on his face.

"Fck! Fck! Fck!." He cursed as fear couldn't be hidden from his trembling voice, he crawled towards Carter to seek his safety.

Carter stepped forward and fronted himself shielding the poor crawling man on the floor crying and begging for help. He held the knife in his hand tight, the furball of a beast stood itself up and with red eyes, charged towards him violently with no regards to anything.

Shall I use it?
