Ada was startled and asked tremblingly, "Nick, what happened to your right hand?"
"It's a long story. I'll explain it to you when I have the chance," Nick said.
Ada nodded, staring at Nick's hand, and instinctively shrank her neck. She felt as if that hand was staring at her, giving her the creeps.
The night passed without further conversation.
The next morning, Nick arrived at the restaurant.
The other employees in the restaurant were surprised to see Nick.
After all the commotion last time, wasn't this human exiled from the restaurant? How could he still be here, alive and well?
Soon, Pinocchio arrived.
He gathered all the employees in the hall.
"Employee 3697, for successfully bringing back Ingredient No. 8, not only made up for his past mistakes but also solved a difficult problem for the restaurant, performing a great service."
"Therefore, the following are the rewards given by the restaurant to Employee 3697!"
"Reward One: Employee of the Week, with a big newcomer red envelope!"
"Reward Two: The seven-day probationary period is ended early, and he is promoted to restaurant supervisor, responsible for managing the West Gate area!"
"Reward Three: A special restaurant pass. Employees wearing this pass can enter any public area of the restaurant unconditionally!"
"Reward Four: A terror-level ghost item!"
As soon as these words were spoken, the whole hall was in an uproar.
Four rewards!!
What shocked them even more was that they were given to a human!
In past examples of restaurant outings, this was extremely rare!
Many ghosts were envious.
This human had only been here for a few days and had already gotten a supervisory position! "Ingredient No. 8, the one that was out of stock, how did he bring it back from the Wandering Supermarket?" An employee stared in shock, as they had previously been sent to buy Ingredient No. 8 and had gone through a lot of hardship without success.
Pinocchio placed a box in front of Nick and looked up at the other employees: "The rest of you, return to your respective positions and prepare for opening!"
Amid the noise, the employees dispersed.
Nick stopped Pinocchio, who was about to leave, and asked, "What should I do today?"
"Go to the West Gate and complete the position handover."
"You are responsible for managing the order at the West Gate, supervising employees to complete their duties, and the rest of the time is your free time," Pinocchio said.
"Your daily wage will be double the original amount!"
This treatment was extremely attractive!
After Pinocchio left, Ada dared to approach and happily said to Nick, "Supervisor, does that mean you can manage those ghosts now? That's amazing! But you'll only be in charge for two days. We'll finish this set of dungeons the day after tomorrow and can go back."
"I almost forgot. There are only two days left. I can go back and see my parents soon. I'm so happy!" Ada was full of motivation at the thought of being able to return alive and reunite with her family.
"I'm going to work. You should hurry to the West Gate too."
After Ada left, Nick didn't rush to the West Gate. Instead, he opened the box.
Inside the box were four items.
A big red envelope with gold trim.
A restaurant uniform for a supervisory position.
A black and eerie certificate.
And a pitch-black, blood-stained stone.
"A stone? A ghost item?"
Nick was stunned. A crappy stone was a terror-level ghost item?
Ghost items were classified as: dangerous, frightening, terror, catastrophic, destructive, and annihilation levels.
Terror-level should be considered a very powerful ghost item.
On Earth, Nick had heard several times in the news about those expert players completing dungeons and bringing back terror-level ghost items, which were said to be sold for hundreds of millions of dollars!
This stone, with its unappealing appearance, being rated as terror-level felt somewhat undervalued.
But that's how it was.
The moment Nick picked up the stone, he clearly felt a terrifying ghostly aura.
Even the Blood-Eyed Ghost in his right hand couldn't help but open one eye and say, "Not a bad ghost item."
Nick blinked and activated his Analytic Eye. "Analytic Eye: Ghost Item – Burial Ghost Stone!"
"On a mass grave, it witnessed a残酷 war. The enemy had run out of ammunition and food. To eliminate all future troubles, he used a stone to smash the heads of the enemies who had lost their ability to resist and finally threw them into a valley filled with corpses and souls, burying them under the pile of bodies..."
"This stone took 107 lives?" Nick was shocked.
Ghost items tainted with the aura of death became more terrifying the stronger it was.
This stone from the mass grave was a treasure!
Nick put the Burial Ghost Stone into his toolbar, changed into the supervisory restaurant uniform, and adjusted his clothing in front of the mirror.
Although he had been promoted, he still needed to work diligently, or else if that ruthless Pinocchio caught him slacking, he would be in trouble.
West Gate.
The restaurant had officially opened for business. The employees began their respective tasks.
"You two stinky rats, what are you dilly-dallying for? If you neglect the customers and cause trouble for me, I'll eat you both!"
The ghost chef, stir-frying dishes, saw the two late waiters and scolded them fiercely.
Aaron and Ben hurriedly picked up the dishes and rushed out the door in fright.
After the chef left, they both breathed a sigh of relief and wiped the cold sweat off their foreheads.
"I can't take it anymore. If this goes on, I'm really going to go crazy!" Aaron held his head and said almost in despair.
"There are only two days left. Let's grit our teeth and hold on. At least we're still alive, unlike Yang and the others..." Ben shook his head.
Originally, there were five of them assigned to the West Gate, but after five days, the other three were unfortunate and lost their lives due to poor service ratings.
The two of them were still alive, but their nerves were close to collapse. "I heard we have a new supervisor at the West Gate, and the handover will happen today," Ben said.
"Good heavens, our previous supervisor was easygoing, and now even he's been replaced. They're really pushing us to the brink!" Aaron cried in despair.
"Stop complaining. Let's deliver the dishes first. We don't have much time left."
Carrying the dishes, they turned around and saw someone walking towards them from a distance.
The two were taken aback and exclaimed in surprise, "Nick?"
Seeing his classmates, Nick wasn't surprised. With so many classmates in the class, they were surely assigned to various areas.
"You weren't transferred to our West Gate, were you?" Ben asked in astonishment.
"Sigh, the customers at the West Gate are very picky. It's not a good thing that you've been transferred here," Aaron shook his head and sighed.
"Still, for old times' sake, we'll take care of you a bit. If there's anything you don't understand, just ask us." "After all, it wasn't easy for you to survive until now, was it?"
The two of them weren't particularly close to Nick, but in this world, they felt a strange sense of closeness to any human they saw.
Nick then spoke up, "I was indeed transferred, but I'm not a food runner."
"Not a food runner? Are you a chef then?"
"Unlikely a chef, probably a greeter," Ben said.
"Not that either."
"Then what?" The two were puzzled.
"You don't have much time left. Just serve the food first, and you'll find out later."
With that, Nick walked towards the kitchen.
The two wanted to ask more questions, but seeing the little time left, they had to put it out of their minds. They quickly picked up the dishes and rushed to the hall.
