Chapter 4

"Damien, didn't you say you had a surprise for me?"

Damien lovingly tapped her nose:

"Of course."

A complete set of priceless experimental equipment was brought in.

Each piece was a precision instrument typically found only in top-tier laboratories.

Vivienne happily hugged him:

"Damien knows me best, these are all the treasures I've been dreaming of!"

"I bet some people here can't even name half of these, huh?"

Damien suddenly remembered my presence.

Looking at my plain clothes, out of place in this luxurious setting.

All these years, he never asked what I wanted, let alone supported my research.

He glanced at me awkwardly:

"Melody, don't get the wrong idea, I'm just supporting Vivienne's research..."

Vivienne suddenly turned pale:

"Damien, I feel dizzy... It's probably the new perfume, the scent is too strong..."

Damien immediately picked her up:

"What's wrong? Is your sense of smell acting up again? I'll take you to get checked out."

With that, he carried Vivienne away hurriedly, leaving me alone on the spot. The whispers of the guests reached my ears:

"No wonder Doctor Grey would rather buy the most expensive equipment for President Snow than help his own darling."

"This useless creature who can't even smell perfume has the audacity to embarrass herself here."

"If it weren't for Doctor Grey honoring her mother's friendship, why would he marry her?"

"She probably used her mother's death to con her way in. How can someone so unworthy be allowed into our circle?"

The rumors grew increasingly nasty, and Mrs. Langdon impatiently waved her hand:

"What bad luck. Get out of here quick, don't ruin Vivienne's good mood."

"At least your mom was a perfumer. The Grey family treating her illness was a favor. She deserved to die, and you're not only ungrateful but dare to trick your way in. Karma will get you sooner or later!"

I clutched the divorce papers in my bag and smiled silently.

So my greatest karma was meeting Damien.

I turned to find him, but heard intimate sounds outside the lounge. Vivienne leaned back on the couch, her hand resting on Damien's shoulder:

"Damien, feel my pulse. Isn't it racing?"

"Vivienne, this isn't appropriate..."

Damien's voice was husky, barely concealing the turmoil within.

Vivienne softly kissed his lips:

"You can fool others, but not me. I know I'm the only one in your heart, ever since our college days. Even if you married someone else for your medical dynasty, your heart will always belong to me. Let's indulge just this once..."

Damien could no longer restrain himself. He pinned her beneath him, kissing her passionately.

Amidst the rustle of clothing, embarrassingly sensual moans filled the air.
