Chapter 5

I heard their sweet nothings as they embraced, silently crying as I turned and fled from that place.

......

The next day, Damien didn't show up.

That was fine. Some goodbyes don't need to be said face to face.

I left the divorce papers where he usually sat, then turned and walked away.

Just as I reached the hospital entrance, Damien called:

"Melody, I'm sorry, there's an urgent project at the lab. Vivienne needs my help."

"Oh, and tomorrow's our wedding anniversary. After your checkup, I'll take you out for your favorite French cuisine."

What a perfect excuse. Absolutely flawless.

Too bad Vivienne had already messaged to gloat.

She said Damien was with her in Paris, custom ordering the latest perfume bottles - limited edition crystal pieces.

This was the first time he'd remembered our anniversary, yet it was to accompany another woman.

"Sounds good. I've actually prepared a gift for you too."

"Really? I can't wait!"
