Marco wanted to open his mouth, to defend himself, but Amelia raised her hand first."Just because I kept quiet doesn't mean I didn't know what was going on between you two. I stayed silent because I knew you weren't ready to talk about it. But now?"She turned her gaze to Marco."You bring this up during a meeting? In between presentation files and budget graphs we're still arguing about? Are you serious, Marco?" she said with a bitter smile.
"I brought it up because it's been bottled up for too long," Marco replied, calm but firm."I'm tired of pretending I don't feel anything, Amel."
Caroline could only lower her head. Her voice cracked as she finally spoke again."I never meant to play with your feelings, Marco. I was just scared," she said haltingly.
Silence fell. Even the sound of the air conditioner felt too loud to bear.
