Chapter 42: A Cozy Weekend Together

Staying in Mahiru's small apartment felt like a dream. It was neat and organized, much like her, and as I stepped inside, I realized just how much I had missed her presence.

The first night, we cooked together. Or rather, Mahiru cooked while I watched in awe, occasionally sneaking tastes when she wasn't looking.

"Amane," she scolded playfully. "Patience."

I grinned, wrapping my arms around her waist from behind. "It's hard when everything you make tastes amazing."

She blushed, but didn't pull away. Instead, she leaned into me. "Then you'll just have to visit more often."

I tightened my hold on her. "That's a promise."

Later that evening, we curled up on the couch, watching an old movie while she rested her head against my shoulder. I traced small circles on the back of her hand, listening to the soft sound of her breathing.

"I wish this could last forever," she murmured sleepily.

I kissed the top of her head. "Me too."

That night, for the first time in a while, everything felt right again.
